SMU adds fourth non-conference game vs. SEC, will face Texas A&M in Arlington

SMU Mustangs Basketball will take on a fourth SEC opponent in the non-conference slate this season, head coach Andy Enfield tells On The Pony Express. Texas A&M will come up to DFW to face Enfield’s team Dec. 7 in Arlington at the College Park Center.
Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and LSU are also on the schedule for the second season of the Enfield era on the Hilltop. It’s a part of a run of four-straight games vs. SEC opponents.
Last season, the Mustangs finished 24-11 overall and 13-7 in ACC play.
SMU returns almost its entire staff with all of the assistant coaches returning. Enfield’s pleased to see the transition from a decade out west to Dallas going smoothly.
“Our staff is experienced. They’ve done an incredible job of staying together and then really getting to know the area. Jeremie Hart was big on that. He’s from Dallas. He’s part of our coaching staff and the other guys that we brought in,” Enfield said. “The other guys we brought in came from USC or California, but then Dana Ford we hired and Dana’s been an incredible addition to our staff. Zach Chu was great for us last year he’s now the head coach at Radford, but that staff continuity with coach Capko, associate head coach and Jay Morris and Eric Mobley has been with us what eight or nine years now and Mike Swets nine years and so that adds up. Kurt Karis actually played for us, was a video coordinator, and then is now an assistant coach.

“That means a lot because you’re together with your players and staff many many days throughout the season and you have to be able to get along and you have to be able to have some kind of culture within your program and they’re a big part and the reason why this is so successful.”
SMU also has Butler on the schedule, which is shaping up to be quite the slate for the Mustangs.
“That’s a pretty challenging schedule. Of course, we go into the ACC starting in January,” Enfield said. “We did that on purpose. We wanted to try to load up with some challenging games to give our guys a chance to get some quality wins early on.”
