SMU at Clemson odds: Point spread updated, How to Watch

The SMU Mustangs travel to face the Clemson Tigers on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT on ACC Network in Clemson, S.C. As of Monday morning, Clemson is a 9.5-point favorite over the Mustangs, according to BetMGM.
The total is set at 54.5 points for Saturday’s ACC contest between two teams that’ve underachieved so far this season.
SMU is coming off a 34-10 win over Stanford at home while Clemson beat Boston College, 41-10. SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee said his team has to be better on 3rd downs to help its defense, especially against one of the top quarterbacks in Cade Klubnik.
“We’ve gotta be better on those downs because if we’re not scoring explosive in a few drives, in a few plays, excuse me, like we did to start the half, then we’re stalling out,” Lashlee said Saturday. “We’re putting our defense right back out there. We can help our defense go to the next level. It’s good team ball. “Defense can help the offense, give us the ball back more. We can help them by staying on the field, finishing drives more, putting more separation, and not putting as much pressure on them. So we’re getting closer.”

This Week 8 matchup is a rematch of last season’s ACC Championship game. Of course, the Tigers went on to defeat the Mustangs 34-31 thanks to the last-second Nolan Hauser field goal from 56 yards out.
This year’s Dabo Swinney team has won back-to-back games after disappointing losses that dropped the Tigers to 1-3 at one point, but now they’re .500.
“I mean they’re a high character bunch. That’s not something new,” Swinney said Sunday. “It’s what I’ve seen. But you never really know until you get put into highly stressful situations. It’s been good to see and it’s been good for them to see. I said last week, we beat Troy but we played terrible. These last two games they’ve played with a lot of confidence and a lot of joy. They’ve responded. We have a long way to go, but all you can do is deal with what’s in front of you.”
