The SMU Mustangs take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT on The CW in Winston Salem, N.C. According to BetMGM, Rhett Lashlee’s team is a 3.5-point favorite on the road.

The total is set at 54.5 points, right around where it’s been for SMU’s season it seems. Last week, the Mustangs beat Clemson, 35-24, finishing off a little bit of redemption from the loss in the ACC Championship last year.

For Lashlee, it wasn’t rooted in revenge for his team, but the big thing was how SMU started and finished the ball game in Clemson, S.C.

“Revenge wasn’t a big deal to me. I mean, I know Kevin kind of said that at one time. Our guys, look, they’re competitive,” Lashlee said. “If it had gone the other way, Clemson would have wanted to beat us. It’s a big win because we’re 3-0 in the league now, and we beat the team who’s won eight out of the last ten times in this league at their home place, and it doesn’t matter how or why we did it, and that’s a big step for our program.

“Last year the game was a great game. We felt like the first quarter we dug a hole and really gifted them some things, and the last three quarters we felt like we played really well, and we just came up short. This year we did a good job of not digging that hole, and I think that’s why we were able to finish the job.”

SMU’s defensive line is coming off one of its best showings of the year. The Tigers couldn’t run the ball and the Clemson offense was held scoreless in the 1st quarter.

“They’re coming off two good games. They did not play well,” Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said Monday. “Blake Miller had one bad play but played a great game. Brayden, for a first start, did well. But we didn’t play well inside at all. We don’t have any excuses. We have good players. SMU just won that matchup. We have to give them credit. We have to do a better job. We had some guys out but we have enough to go get the job done. We still had a chance to win the game at the end with a stop, but didn’t get one. Definitely not our best game up front, that’s for sure.”

SMU hopes to keep its nation’s best regular season conference winning streak in tact Saturday at Wake Forest. Wake Forest is 4-2 overall and is coming off a bye week.
