SMU in the NFL, Week 13: Rashee Rice continues to own the field
One of the best NFL weeks of the season is Thanksgiving week. From Thursday to Sunday, it’s basically non-stop ball, endless food and a comfy spot on the couch. And this week, the turkey wasn’t the only thing that got stuffed… so was the stat board for a couple SMU players in the NFL.
Depending on how your fantasy seasons are set for playoffs, this may have been your last week for the ‘Stangs on your roster to show up. And if you are one of the bold who drafted Rashee Rice and held on for six weeks, things have definitely paid off.
Here’s the Week 13 update for SMU players in the NFL…
Courtland Sutton, WR, Denver Broncos

The Broncos had a nail-biter of a game vs the Washington Commanders with the game going into OT, with the Broncos eventually pulling out the win, 27-26. Sutton tallied 5 of 6 targets for 62 yards for an average of 12.4 yards and found the endzone for one touchdown.
QB Bo Nix might find his favorite target more next season, considering they face off with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Rashee Rice, WR, Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs may have lost to the Cowboys Thursday night, but that didn’t stop Rice from shining on the field. Say hello to the ‘Stangs firecracker of the week!
After Rice’s stellar Week 12 performance, he kept the tempo up capturing 8 of 12 receptions for 92 yards and two touchdowns. He also tallied one rush for two yards. With back-to-back games of epic standards, Rice leads the list in WR1 in fantasy football points and he leads the league in catchable volume.
Rice is smashing stats and standards for the Chiefs roster, and WR standards beyond. Mind you, he’s just getting started (since Week 7), courtesy of his suspension.
Expect Rice to keep it up this week in a match up against the Houston Texans.
Brashard Smith, RB, Kansas City Chiefs

Smith saw goose eggs in both the rushing and reception department, but it could be due to his fellow Pony receiving all the looks and production.
Still, he should see some looks in the Texans match up after crickets.
Brandon Stephens, CB, New York Jets

Stephens found the stat board, but not in his usual capacity as of late. He tallied 3 total tackles and 1 solo tackle. But again, the stats don’t tell the whole story.
Kelvin Beachum, LT, Arizona Cardinals

Beachum is off the questionable roster!
The lineman has been plagued with on-and-off injuries this season and with the Cardinals have yet to add another W to the win column, still just 3-9. Granted, other injuries have plagued the team including QB Kyler Murray still on IR, with QB Jacoby Brissett, still filling in.
Grant Calcaterra, TE, Philadelphia Eagles

Calcaterra put up another goose egg in terms of the stat board, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t see the field. He was utilized mainly in blocking situations, however, this has been a bit of a controversial call to many fans (especially in the X-verse) over the weeks.
HC Nick Sirianni was confronted about this play call specifically during a press conference.
Sirianni says they continue to have faith in utilizing Calcaterra, but we’re ready to see the ball thrown his way, too.
Elijah Roberts, DE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Roberts joined the list of starters again this week for the Bucs, but in terms of the stat board, this week he comes up with 1 tackle.
Despite the small number(s), Roberts continues to be an asset on D for the Bucs and continues to shine on the field for them.

Evan Brown, G, Arizona Cardinals

Brown is back active in the lineup for the Cardinals as well and on the line ready to protect Brissett.
And after only tallying one win since the loss of QB Murray (which was against a defenseless Cowboys team), the Cards are going to need all the help they can get on offense with a very sad 3-9 record.
Kylen Granson, TE, Philadelphia Eagles

Granson didn’t see the stat board for Week 13 with zeros across the board. This seems to be the trend for Granson and Calcaterra though, so onward and upward into Week 14.
Charles Woods, CB, New England Patriots

No new stats for Woods in the New England Patriots big win over the New York Giants. HC Mike Vrabel did mention Woods by name in an opportunity to step up, however.
Zach Wood, LS, New Orleans Saints

Week 4 and Wood is still snapper No. 1 and there’s not much else to report here.
Sure, long snapper isn’t exactly a position to watch out for in fantasy means, but in terms of Mustangs in the bigs, Wood joins this list as the third longest Pony in the league behind Beachum with nine seasons. Check out his extensive history with the Saints and why he’s a team captain for the Saints here.
Thomas Morstead, P, San Francisco 49ers

You may not think punter for top production from the ‘Stangs in the NFL this week, but Morstead was that guy in terms of the stat board. He threw up 5 punts for an average of 35.6 yards, with his longest kick being 42 yards for a total of 178 yards.
Again… Punter, but hey — Not only is Morstead the most seasoned veteran on this list, entering his 16th season, he is reaching several career milestones due to his NFL longevity that most players never see. The punter is one of the oldest active players and will likely become the 10th punter to play in his 40s.
Jared Harrison-Hunte, DE, Carolina Panthers

The defensive end has officially moved up from the practice squad to the actual roster!
Harrison-Hunte is active, but didn’t put any numbers up for Week 13.
James Proche II, WR, Tennessee Titans

The Titans WR was officially pulled up to the active roster in Week 12 and has been immediately put to use! Proche II went 3 for 3 for 42 yards last week and this week goes 1 for 1 for a 13 yard reception.
The Titans squad has been pretty beaten up as of late, but Proche II appears to be a bright light for them moving forward.
Practice Squad SMU players in the NFL:
Jahfari Harvey, LDE, Las Vegas Raiders

Harvey falls from the regular roster for the Raiders and is on the practice squad.
New Addition! Danny Gray, WR, Philadelphia Eagles

It looks like Gray is back on an NFL practice roster, folks! After originally being on the San Francisco 49ers and then on the Eagles roster, Gray has now found residency back with the Eagles on their practice squad roster.
Here’s some guys you may have been looking for on this list that were dropped on waivers or cut…
