SMU ranked in Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll ahead of 2025 college football season
SMU sits inside the Top 25 of the Preseason Coaches Poll revealed on Monday. Rhett Lashlee and the Mustangs once again look to make waves like the team did in 2024.
SMU comes in at 16th nationally, according to the coaches. After Kevin Jennings took over as the team’s starting quarterback, the Mustangs finished in the ACC Championship game and in the College Football Playoff.
Now, it’s about following up that magical 11-win season by taking the next step as a program and winning those types of matchups.
“When it comes to the ACC, there’s no question our league has separated itself as one of the top three leagues in America. The data speaks for itself, whether it’s the revenue generation that we did this past year. I know the commissioner spoke to three leagues how to network. Our network five years in is thriving and does a great job covering us. Three leagues had multiple CFP participants this year. We were one of them,” Lashlee said at ACC Media Days. “On top of it, I know it’s been talked about here, we have the toughest nonconference strength of schedule in all of college football. We’re going to partake in that this year as we play two really good teams from the Big 12 in Baylor and TCU that are both nine-win teams a year ago.”
No. 1 is Texas followed by Ohio State, Penn State, Georgia and Notre Dame. The sixth-ranked team is Clemson with Oregon, Alabama, LSU and another ACC team, Miami, rounding out the Top 10.
