SMU hosts Syracuse on Saturday as the Mustangs aim to open ACC play with a win. The Orange, coming off a lopsided loss to Duke, will try to bounce back, while SMU looks to spark its offense after a sluggish performance against TCU.

SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings was asked about something he wants to improve on heading into the fifth game of the season:

“I think the main emphasis has just been consistency, on plays where I look good or plays where I look bad,” Jennings said. “Just having more good plays than bad plays, being more consistent, and bringing my team along with me. I think as long as we play our hardest and execute our base plays, nobody will be able to stop us.”

Spread for SMU vs Syracuse

SMU is a 17.5-point favorite over Syracuse with the over/under set at 58.5 points according to BetMGM. The Mustangs are favored by 9.5 points in the 1st half.

SMU Head Coach Rhett Lashlee is weary of the challenges Syracuse presents.

“I think what changes, they started a new quarterback. That’s always an adjustment,” Lashlee said. “They turned the ball over early and kind of got behind. It was 17-3 like that, which gives Duke a lot of confidence. There’s a lot of change there. Unfortunately, sometimes you have those games where things just steamroll against you and it kind of gets out of control. It’s still the same team, even if they have a different quarterback, that went on the road and was beating Clemson by 20 midway through the fourth quarter. So they’re a dangerous team. They won 13 games in less than a year and a half. So yeah, we got to attack and be aggressive.”

SMU will try to kickoff ACC play with a win at 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday afternoon.
