In 2022, the University of Southern California football program went 11-3. The Trojans lost to Tulane in this year’s Goodyear Cotton Bowl 46-45.

Southern Cal’s head coach is former Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley. Riley brought the Trojans to a Pac-12 title game in his first season. He also helped his quarterback Caleb Williams win the 2022 Heisman Trophy.

Lloyd joins Williams who he played against in high school as both played in the DMV area.

Lloyd joins a running back room that returns some experience. Former Oregon transfer Travis Dye led the Trojans in rushing in 2022 before suffering a season-ending injury against Colorado.

Once again Lloyd will be competing for touches in a high-powered offense.

Lloyd arrived at South Carolina in January of 2020. He tore his ACL on the second day of fall camp and missed the entire season.

Following his injured season in 2020, Lloyd shared part of the load in 2021. He tallied 64 carries for 228 yards and a touchdown.

South Carolina lead running back in 2022, Lloyd he rushed 111 times for 573 yards in just 9 games. He missed several due to a thigh bruise and then entered the portal before the bowl game.

He was the primary option out of the South Carolina backfield when he was healthy. He is a dynamic back that possesses speed and size. Lloyd’s best game came against UNC Charlotte where he ran for 169 yards and three touchdowns.

Lloyd announced he was entering the transfer portal on December 12 via his social media.

Shane Beamer spoke on Lloyd’s decision to leave prior to offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains’s introductory press conference.

“He went back home – he’s home right now – and obviously when he got back home, some things in his mind changed that I wasn’t aware of or that we didn’t talk about that day,” Beamer said.

Beamer said he had a productive conversation with Lloyd following the Clemson game. Sometime between that conversation and his departure, things changed.

“We talked on Monday morning, him and his mom and I, for a long time,” Beamer said. “Wish him well.”
