South Carolina outgoing transfers (4)

LB Jaron Willis – 12-7-25

Willis played the past three seasons with the Gamecocks after beginning his college career at Ole Miss in 2022 and will have one season of eligibility remaining.

This past season, Willis played in 11 games and recorded seven total tackles and two fumble recoveries. He’ll now aim to make an impact for another defense in 2026, which will be his last year of college football.

Overall, Willis made an appearance in 22 games across his career with South Carolina. He leaves witth 10 tackles for his career along with the two fumble recoveries he has from this season.

DL Zavion Hardy – 12-4-25

The 6-foot-5, 290-pounder arrived in Columbia in January as a junior college transfer from East Mississippi Community College.

He played his high school ball at two different programs – Howard in Macon, Georgia, as well as Tatnall Square Academy.

This season, Hardy played in just one game for South Carolina, logging snaps in the Coastal Carolina contest. He did not record any statistics in that game.

IOL Nick Sharpe – 12-3-25

Sharpe, a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility remaining, announced his intentions to transfer the week after the regular season ended.

“I want to thank the University of South Carolina for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to play here,” Sharpe said in an X post. “After talking with my family and a lot of prayer, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal. I will be doing so as a graduate transfer with one year remaining!

Sharpe spent one season at South Carolina and made five starts on the offensive line. The Gastonia native previously spent four years at Wake Forest.

TE Michael Smith – 10-7-25

The sophomore from Savannah, Ga. has played in four games this season, making two catches for 20 yards on the year.

Smith caught 10 passes for 106 yards and a touchdown as a true freshman last season. While he didn’t have a massive impact, he saw action in 12 of 13 games, making seven starts, and was considered a high upside player with a bright future.

Because he has only played in four games, the 6-foot-6, 248-pounder will redshirt this year and be considered a redshirt sophomore in 2026, giving him three years of eligibility left.

Walk-ons OL Mac Walters, WR Emazon Littlejohn, and PK Peyton Argent have also announced plans to enter the portal.

Transfer portal background information

The NCAA Transfer Portal, which covers every NCAA sport at the Division I, II and III levels, is a private database with names of student-athletes who wish to transfer. It is not accessible to the public.

The process of entering the portal is done through a school’s compliance office. Once a player provides written notification of an intent to transfer, the office enters the player’s name in the database and everything is off and running. The compliance office has 48 hours to comply with the player’s request and that request cannot be refused.

Once a player’s name shows up in the portal, other schools can contact the player. Players can change their minds at any point and withdraw from the portal. However, once a player enters the portal, the current scholarship no longer has to be honored. In other words, if a player enters the portal but decides to stay, the school is not obligated to provide a scholarship anymore.
