South Carolina football Director of Nutrition Kristin Coggin has accepted a job with Nebraska in the same or a similar role, Gamecock Central has learned and originally reported to its subscribers Monday afternoon on The Insiders Forum.

Coggin, who was highly respected among the Gamecock football players, joined the program in May of 2017 under the guidance of then-head coach Will Muschamp.

Coggin would replace Dave Ellis, according to HuskerOnline, one of the highest-paid nutritionists in the sport at $266,590. NU had an overall staff salary budget of nearly $1.1 million in its performance nutrition department, according to the site.

Coggin will only oversee the football side of nutrition and not the entire department like Ellis.

The following is from her South Carolina bio:

As team dietitian, she was responsible for managing all aspects of performance nutrition for the team which includes coordinating all meals throughout the year, counseling athletes, and analyzing the athletes body compositions and hydration needs. She collaborates with the coaching and training staffs to provide updates on nutrition concerns, priorities, and accomplishments for each individual player.

Coggin previously served on the Alabama staff as a Registered Dietitian/Performance Nutrition Coordinator for two years.  She worked closely with football, men’s basketball, softball and several other sports. The Crimson Tide reached CFP National Championship in both years.

Coggin graduated from Tennessee with degrees in psychology in 2012 and in nutrition in 2014, which lead to a dietetic internship at Cal Poly-Pomona.

The Pulaski, Tenn., native had a successful athletic career as part of the Lady Vols rowing team. She won two conference titles and competed for an NCAA Championship.

Coggin was highly featured last offseason in a segment of the third episode of ESPNU’s Welcome Home: South Carolina Football series.

In the segment, Coggin sits with South Carolina wide receiver Antwane Wells Jr., a transfer from James Madison, about his nutrition goals for this season.

“I’m teaching our players that nutrition isn’t just something you need to perform at your highest level right now, but it’s something that you need for the rest of your life,” Coggin said. “So getting them comfortable with different seasonings, using knives, making meals, and giving them different protein.”
