South Carolina softball ranked after undefeated start

South Carolina softball coach Ashley Chastain Woodard is off to an undefeated start to her tenure leading the Gamecocks. Through the first two weeks of the season, USC is 10-0, including a pair of wins over a ranked Virginia squad. During that stretch, Carolina has allowed just 13 runs while scoring 81 of their own.
Because of the strong start to the season, South Carolina earned some top-25 rankings this week.
D1Softball put Carolina in its top 25 for the first time this season. Chastain Woodard’s team cracked the rankings at No. 24 in Tuesday’s update.
Softball America, who ranked the Gamecocks 25th last week, now slots USC in at No. 22.
USA Today did not include the Gamecocks in their top 25. However, Coach Chastain Woodard’s team entered the “others receiving votes” category.
ESPN.com’s softball poll put South Carolina at No. 24, just like D1Softball.
