Spencer Rattler managing high expectations surrounding him, South Carolina

The buzz for South Carolina football is higher than it’s been in quite some time.
A lot of that has to do with adding highly touted transfer quarterback Spencer Rattler this offseason.

“The work you put in with the guys in the meeting room, out here on the field, and the weight room, that’s all you can control,” said Rattler. “Just playing your type of game, playing within the system, and trusting your coaches. That’s all you can control. You can’t listen to the expectations and everything and you definitely want to be confident in yourself. You never want to lose that as a player so that will all stay the same.”
On Friday, Rattler took to field for his first preseason camp practice as a Gamecock. During the limited that the media was able to observe practice one thing that really stood out was how USC’s offense was on the same page. Look, I get it. You should be completing passes when you’re throwing on air. But that’s not always the case early on in camp. Especially a few periods in during the first preseason camp practice of the year.

It wasn’t just Rattler it was all of the quarterbacks, wide receivers, and tight ends. They looked polished and ahead of schedule. Being able to get on the same page as quickly as they can will be crucial for this offense with the gauntlet of a schedule they’ll face the start of the year of Georgia State, Arkansas, and Georgia.
“We know this is a tough league. Best league in the country. (But) we’ve got to prepare for Georgia State Week 1 and then we’ll move on from there. That’s what we’re focused on; being 1-0 each week. If we play the type of game we want to play and the type we expect to play everything else will take care of itself.”
