Tennessee basketball gets transfer portal commitment from Hofstra wing Darlinstone Dubar
Tennessee basketball has received its first commitment out of the NCAA Transfer Portal from Darlinstone Dubar, the 6-foot-8 wing from Hofstra. Dubar took an official visit to Tennessee over the weekend alongside Belmont transfer forward Cade Tyson.
Dubar spent the last three seasons at Hofstra after playing his first season at Iowa State. Dubar averaged a career-high 17.8 points per game in 33 games this season, shooting 53.9% from the floor and 39.9% from the 3-point line.
He also averaged 6.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 34.6 minutes per game. Dubar averaged 10.3 points per game last season and 11.7 two years ago, shooting a career-high 68.4% from the field in 2021-22 and 40.4% from the 3-point line in 2022-23.
Darlinstone Dubar averaged 17.5 points on 15.2 possessions per game last season
Dubar was the fourth-most efficient offensive player in college basketball this season, according to Synergy Basketball. He averaged his 17.5 points per game on 15.2 possessions per game, giving him an average of 1.15 points per possession.
Tyson, the 6-foot-7, 205-pound sophomore who also visited Tennessee over the weekend, averaged 16.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 0.9 steals in 31.6 minutes per game at Belmont this season, starting all 31 games.
The Vols currently have six open scholarship spots on its 2024-25 roster. The Vols lost three fifth-year seniors in Dalton Knecht, Josiah-Jordan James and Santiago Vescovi and have also seen four player enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Four-star point guard Bishop Boswell signed with Tennessee during the November signing period and is currently the only addition to the roster set for next season.
Four Tennessee players have entered NCAA Transfer Portal
Freshman guard Freddie Dilione V entered the NCAA Transfer Portal first, followed by redshirt freshman wing DJ Jefferson, sophomore forward Tobe Awaka and junior center Jonas Aidoo.
Tennessee is currently scheduled to return six scholarship players: Juniors Zakai Zeigler, Jahmai Mashack and Jordan Gainey and freshmen JP Estrella, Cam Carr and Cade Phillips.
Awaka removing his name from the portal and staying with the Vols remains a possibility.
Awaka averaged 5.1 points, 4.6 rebound and 0.6 blocks in 12.9 minutes per game, coming off the bench in 33 games this season. He averaged 3.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in 10.3 minutes per game as a freshman.
Dilione entered the portal after averaging just 5.3 minutes in his 18 appearances this season. Jefferson played in just one game, with three points in three minutes in the season-opening win over Tennessee Tech in November.
