Franklin High School (Tenn.) in-state DB Luke Thompson visited Rocky Top last weekend for his official visit with the Vols. He left the trip high on Tennnessee, and he waited less than a week to announce his commitment. He detailed the decision with Volquest.

“I just like the coaches and all of the athletes that I hung out with why I was there,” Thompson said of what made Tennessee right for him. “They were all very similar to me, and I really enjoyed that. The people and the community that I just felt like I could be a part of was great.”

Thompson has numerous family ties to Tennessee. His uncle lives in Knoxville, his dad was a decathlete at Tennessee, his mom was an all-American and SEC Champion distance runner, and his granddad played on the football team in the 70s, and he has had numerous aunts and uncles attend the University.

His family never pressured him to carry on the legacy, but he is proud to do so.

“There was no pressure at all from my family because they would support me wherever I went, but it is cool to carry on that legacy, and it is very, very supported by them,” Thompson said of this. “Everyone in my family is just so excited for me because most of them all went there.”

The opportunity to grow and develop as a safety at Tennessee was also too much to pass up.

“My recruiting coach, Coach Tbarr told me not to get too greedy, and by that, I mean, I wanted to play offense because that is something I have always wanted to do, but to play at a big program like Tennessee’s, I need to set some things aside and do what is best for me. He wanted to play running back put they moved him to linebacker, so he kept transferring. His advice to me was to not be too greedy, so I have set aside my offensive goals, and I will set aside track (after high school) and focus on safety.”

Thompson is excited for the next chapter on Rocky Top, and the message on what he plans to bring to Rocky Top is simple.

“Everything I have in me will go to this program,” Thompson said of this.
