Sherrone Moore Arrest: Washtenaw County releases mugshot after fake went viral

Former Michigan coach Sherrone Moore’s mugshot has been released after a fake one went viral on social media. He was arraigned last week and released on bond following his detainment by police.

Moore was charged with third-degree home invasion, stalking and breaking and entering during an arraignment hearing last week. Under Michigan law, third-degree home invasion is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $2,000 fine. The stalking charge is a misdemeanor that carries a potential penalty of up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. The breaking-and-entering charge is also a misdemeanor, punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a $500 fine.

Moore’s bond was set at $25,000 during his arraignment hearing. He was later conditionally released and is due for another court date Jan. 22, 2026.

Moore was booked into the Washtenaw County Jail at 8:39 p.m. on Dec. 10, according to police records. That came after his detainment by police. Officers responded to the 3000 block of Ann Arbor Saline Rd. in Pittsfield Township at approx. 4:10 p.m. ET on Dec. 10 to investigate an alleged assault, the Pittsfield Township Police Department said in a statement late that day.

According to prosecutors, Moore was unarmed when he allegedly entered the residence through an unlocked door without permission. Authorities say a verbal confrontation ensued and escalated. Prosecutors allege Moore retrieved knives and scissors from a drawer and threatened to harm himself, telling the woman involved that “my blood is on your hands.”

Court filings indicate Moore left the residence after the woman contacted her attorney and said she would call the police. Prosecutors described the victim as having been “terrorized” by the encounter.

The situation occurred after Moore’s firing as Michigan head coach, which athletics director Warde Manuel confirmed was for cause. A university investigation found evidence of an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, which not only violated the terms of his contract, but also school policy.

“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately,” Manuel said in a statement. “Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior. Biff Poggi has been appointed head football coach in an interim capacity, effective immediately.”

Michigan finished the 2025 regular season 9–3, including a 2–0 record under Poggi while Moore previously served a suspension related to a sign-stealing investigation. The Wolverines are scheduled to face Texas in the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
