Where ESPN ranks Tennessee's Joey Aguilar among SEC quarterbacks through Week 2

Joey Aguilar is the fifth best quarterback in the SEC, according to ESPN, which ranked the Tennessee Football transfer behind Missouri’s Beau Pribula, Oklahoma’s John Mateer, Arkansas’ Taylen Green and Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia.
Ranked behind Pavia were LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier at No. 6, No. 7 Arch Manning, No. 8 Gunner Stockton, No. 9 Ty Simpson and No. 10 Marcel Reed. Then it was Ole Miss quarterback Austin Simmons at No. 11, South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers at No. 12 and Mississippi State’s Blake Shapen.
The bottom three were Auburn’s Jackson Arnold, Florida’s DJ Lagway and Kentucky’s Zach Calzada.

“The App State/UCLA transfer has now topped 7,000 career passing yards,” ESPN’s Bill Connelly wrote, “and he’s been on cruise control early into his Vols tenure: 66% completion rate, 13.7 yards per completion, no picks and two easy wins.”
Aguilar in his Tennessee debut completed 16 of 28 passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns in the 45-26 win over Syracuse in Atlanta on August 30. On Saturday he threw for 288 yards and two touchdowns before being pulled at halftime with the Vols up 48-0 against ETSU, on the way to a 72-17 win.
Aguilar in 25 games over the last two seasons at Appalachian State threw for 6,760 yards, 56 touchdowns and 24 interceptions before entering the NCAA Transfer Portal in December and landing at UCLA.
He was back in the portal in April after former Tennessee starter Nico Iamaleava transferred to UCLA.

Kirby Smart: Joey Aguilar ‘playing really efficiently’ for Vols
Aguilar will get his first taste of the SEC when No. 15 Tennessee (2-0) hosts No. 6 Georgia (2-0) on Saturday (3:30 p.m. Eastern Time, ABC) at Neyland Stadium.
“He’s playing really efficiently,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said of Aguilar on Monday. “He’s got great arm talent. He’s a really good athlete. You can tell he understands the system. He gets the ball out quickly. He’s been very accurate. He’s had some really well-thrown balls, a couple they’ve dropped in crucial times.
“But he makes some good throws, and really a good deep-ball passer. I think he puts air under the ball, gives the receiver an opportunity to run under it. He’s made plays with his legs, which you have to do in this league at quarterback, and he’s been very, very impressive in the two games he played.”
