Tennessee football made another move up in the On3 team recruiting rankings after landing another huge commitment, this time from four-star in-state linebacker Edwin Spillman. The 6-foot-1, 220-pounder out of Lipscomb Academy in Nashville picked the Vols over Ohio State.

Tennessee is now ranked No. 7 nationally in the 2024 team recruiting rankings. The Vols are No. 4 in the SEC and have a class score of 91.18.

Spillman is ranked No. 300 overall in the On3 Industry Ranking. He’s the No. 27 linebacker in the 2024 class and is ranked No. 7 overall in the state of Tennessee.

His commitment comes just two days removed from Tennessee adding five-star wide receiver Mike Matthews, the No. 14 overall player in the 2024 rankings and is the No. 4 wide receiver in the class. He’s the No. 3 overall prospect in the state of Georgia, where he attends Parkview High School in Lilburn.

Before receiving the Matthews commitment, Tennessee was ranked No. 14 nationally and No. 6 in the SEC with a class score of 90.24. The Vols were ranked No. 9 nationally and No. 5 in the SEC entering Friday.

Tennessee up to 18 commitments in 2024 recruiting class

Spillman is the 18th commitment in Tennessee’s 2024 class. He’s the 11th four-star prospect committed to the Vols and is the seventh top-300 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking.

Matthews leads the group at No. 14 overall, ahead of four-star cornerback Kaleb Beasley (No. 133), four-star quarterback Jake Merklinger (No. 135), four-star wide receiver Braylon Staley (No. 137), four-star tight end Jonathan Echols (No. 142) and four-star running back Peyton Lewis (No. 181).

The 5-foot-11.5, 168-pound Beasley, another Lipscomb Academy product who committed to the Vols last October, is ranked No. 18 among cornerbacks and is the No. 1 overall prospect in the state of Tennessee.

Merklinger is the No. 8 quarterback in 2024 and is ranked No. 22 overall in the state of Georgia. He committed to the Vols back in March. Staley is the No. 24 wide receiver in the class and the No. 3 overall prospect in the state of South Carolina.

Echols is ranked No. 13 among tight ends and No. 22 overall in the state of Florida, where he attends IMG Academy. Lewis is the No. 14 running back in the class and is ranked No. 3 overall in the state of Virginia.
