One day after multiple reports announced that USC defensive lineman Bear Alexander would be entering the transfer portal when it opens next week, Alexander offered his first public comment, shooting down those reports.

“I’m not crystal clear on all of the noise or what any of this portal mess is about,” Alexander posted to X. “…I’m here to finish what I started and that’s chasing a natty here at USC with my teammates #FightOn

USC quarterback Miller Moss reacted positively to the statement, posting “Never a doubt, let’s do it B.”

The 6-foot-3, 313-pounder arrived at USC a year ago as a transfer from Georgia. He quickly became a starter and finished the 2023 season with 48 tackles, including 6.5 for loss and 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup. He also led the Trojans with four quarterback hurries. Alexander was named Pac-12 Honorable Mention.

Keeping him in cardinal and gold would be a huge win for head coach Lincoln Riley and an overhauled defensive coaching staff that is looking for a complete turnaround from the USC defense. Alexander gives the Trojans a veteran, talented presence in the middle of the line who should be able to take a significant step forward under new coordinator D’Anton Lynn and position coach Eric Henderson.
