USC linebacker Tackett Curtis officially entered the NCAA transfer portal on Monday, becoming another high-profile young Trojan to do so.

Curtis was pushed onto the field immediately for the Trojans this fall, starting the first eight games of the season at inside linebacker. He struggled at times in making the adjustment to this level, but certainly showed enough to believe he had a bright future in cardinal and gold. Curtis eventually took on a reserve role over the final four games and saw the field for just three defensive snaps in the season finale against UCLA.

Curtis finished the season with 40 tackles, two sacks, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumbles.

The four-star recruit was a major recruiting win for USC over Ohio State and Wisconsin on the recruiting trail. Linebacker coach Brian Odom was instrumental in landing Curtis for the Trojans. But Odom’s status with USC will be interesting to watch as the Trojans recently hired former North Dakota State head coach Matt Entz as the linebacker coach and assistant head coach for defense.

USC Trojans in the Transfer Portal

Curtis is officially the fifteenth Trojan to enter his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason. He went in shortly after former Five-Star Plus+ recruit Domani Jackson did so on Monday as well. Fellow Five-Star Plus+ prospect Malachi Nelson is expected to enter the portal shortly.

Running back/wide receiver Raleek Brown is the only former Trojan to have made a commitment elsewhere. Brown announced Saturday that he’ll be heading to Arizona State to continue his career.

Running back Darwin Barlow, wide receiver Mario Williams and Michael Jackson III, tight end Jude Wolfe, defensive tackle De’jon Benton and offensive tackle Michael Tarquin are some of the other Trojans who have earned playing time at USC who remain in the portal at this time.
