Game Notes

To help you get prepared for kickoff, here are some notes about the matchup:

Colorado has famously never defeated USC in football—the Trojans are 15-0 all-time against the Buffaloes. Ten of those victories have come since Colorado joined the Pac 12 in 2011.

-The most recent matchup between the two teams occurred last year in Boulder. USC, led by interim head coach Donte Williams, defeated Colorado 37-14. Trojan quarterback Kedon Slovis had his best game of what was an otherwise struggling season, throwing for 276 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. Drake London caught nine passes for 130 yards, including a spectacular touchdown grab.

-Colorado’s last visit to the Coliseum was back in 2018 (the 2020 matchup between the two teams was cancelled due to a COVID outbreak within USC’s roster). The Trojans won that game 31-20, with true freshman quarterback JT Daniels passing for 283 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. Wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. also had a big day, catching six passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns. Cornerback Ajene Harris essentially sealed the win for USC with a third quarter pick six of Colorado quarterback Steven Montez.

-After Colorado fired head coach Karl Dorrell in early October, interim head coach Mike Sanford Jr. will lead the Buffaloes. This will be the second consecutive USC-Colorado matchup with an interim head coach—as previously mentioned, Williams coached the Trojans in last year’s game following the firing of Clay Helton. Sanford’s father, Mike Sanford Sr., played at USC from 1973-1976 under head coaches John McKay and John Robinson.

-USC wide receiver Brenden Rice spent the past two seasons at Colorado before transferring to USC this past offseason.

-This will mark USC’s first Friday game since their 2019 matchup vs. Colorado, and the first Friday night game at the Coliseum since the Trojans faced Utah earlier that same year. USC won both of those matchups. Not including bowl games, the Trojans have won four consecutive Friday games dating back to 2017.
