Spring Transfer Portal Update - Monday, April 22, 2024

Former Boston College forward Devin McGlockton has committed to Vanderbilt, via the NCAA Transfer Portal, per Jon Rothstein. He spent three seasons with the Eagles.

McGlockton appeared and started in all 36 games for Boston College this past season. He averaged 10.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 57.5% from the floor and 36.7% from beyond the arc.

McGlockton scored double figures in six straight games against ACC foes, including a 19-point outing against Virginia Tech on Jan. 23. The 6-foot-7 forward scored a career-high 30 points on 12-15 shooting against Georgia Tech on Jan. 6.

In the 2022-23 season, McGlockton averaged 6.1 points and 3.9 rebounds per contest. His minutes significantly increased throughout the season. He started in 10 of the team’s final 11 games. McGlockton did not play in his true freshman season.

Devin McGlockton played high school basketball at South Forsyth (GA), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 245 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

McGlockton finished his prep career as South Forsyth’s all-time leader in points and rebounds, while ranking second in blocked shots. In his senior season, he led the school to a season-record 23 wins – including 17 straight victories – en route to capturing the school’s first regional championship in 23 years.

Devin McGlockton joins new era at Vanderbilt

McGlocketon is the sixth player Vanderbilt has added in the transfer portal under new coach Mark Byington. He joins fellow transfers Grant Huffman (Davidson), Tyler Nickel and MJ Collins (Virginia Tech), Jason Edwards (North Texas) and Jaylen Carey (James Madison).

Byinton takes over Vanderbilt fresh off a Round of 32 appearance in the NCAA Tournament with James Madison, having fallen to Duke to end the season. Byington spent four seasons at the helm of James Madison. However, he is ecstatic to steer the Commodores in a new direction.

“I’m thrilled and honored to be the head men’s basketball coach at Vanderbilt University. I know Commodore fans are eager for success and we will get there together,” Byington said in a press release. “I was blown away by the passion and enthusiasm of Vice Chancellor and Athletic Director Candice Storey Lee and Chancellor Daniel Diermeier.

“We share the same vision that Vanderbilt basketball belongs as one of the nation’s elite programs. I look forward to meeting the fans, alumni, students and all of Commodore Nation. Our time is coming. Get ready!!!”
