BYU transfer guard Dallin Hall evaluating options
Hours after BYU head coach Mark Pope officially accepted the Kentucky job, Dallin Hall entered the transfer portal.
The BYU guard averaged nine points and 5.1 assists this season for the Cougars, playing in 34 games and averaging 29.3 minutes. He’s played in 68 career games in two seasons and has another two years of eligibility remaining.
Roughly 72 hours into his portal recruitment, a source tells On3 that the sophomore is starting to evaluate his options and cut down a list of schools. Creighton, Clemson, Cincinnati, Florida, Utah, Utah State and Washington are all in the mix for Hall.
Returning to BYU has not been ruled out.
Dallin Hall was one of the biggest recruiting wins of Pope’s tenure at in Provo. After going on his mission, the guard returned and was an instant contributor. The guard leaves his two seasons at BYU averaging 8.2 points and 4.1 assists. He was a key contributor to this year’s team, which went 23-11, including a 10-8 record in Big 12 play. The Cougars finished fifth after being picked to finish 13th in the preseason poll.
Following Mark Pope not in mix
An honorable mention All-Big 12 selection as a sophomore, Hall is not expected to follow Pope to Kentucky at this time. Pope, a former Kentucky player and national champion, was introduced as the Wildcats’ new head coach on Sunday afternoon.
Kentucky continues to wait out a decision from Reed Sheppard, who could be a lottery pick in June’s NBA draft.
“There’s one other way where I want to blow up this press conference and I’m going to get crushed for doing this,” Pope said Sunday in Lexington. “Every coach in America at every other job in America stands up in their press conference and they try and moderate expectations. We don’t do that here at Kentucky.”
“When Mitch (Barnhart) called me and talked to me about being the head coach here at Kentucky? I understand the assignment. We are here to win banners.”
