Colorado and the Transfer Portal

Since Deion Sanders became the head coach at Colorado, few teams have used the Transfer Portal to the same extent that the Buffaloes have. That has continued in the Spring of 2024, with another run of players choosing to enter the portal and move on from the program. Meanwhile, another group is coming to join Sanders and Colorado.

To this point in the 2024 transfer cycle, the Colorado Buffaloes transfer class is the third-ranked class, according to the On3 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings. To this point, 35 players have officially put their names in the portal to transfer out of the program. Meanwhile, 29 players have committed to transfer to the program. Both of those numbers are likely going to continue to grow.

J.J. Hawkins has now joined that group of players transferring out of the program, including big names like Cormani McClain, Jack Wilty, and Kyndrich Breedlove.

On the other side of the coin, Colorado has been active in the portal, bringing in several big names of their own. That group includes players like Quency Wiggins, Tyler Johnson, and Cordale Russell. In total, 19 of the players coming to Colorado are coming from power conference teams. On top of that, nine players are coming from the Group of Five and another two are coming from FCS. One of those FCS players is coming from Jackson State, Sanders’ former school.
