Utah guard Deivon Smith has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Jamie Shaw has learned. He is coming off a career-high in scoring this past season after starting his career at Mississippi State and Georgia Tech.

Smith averaged 13.3 points in 2023-24 to earn honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors in his first season at Utah. That came after two years at Georgia Tech, where he jumped in the starting lineup for 13 of his 24 appearances in 2022-23, and one season at Mississippi State.

Smith played high school basketball at Grayson (Ga.) High School, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 57 overall player from the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Deivon Smith is the fourth player to leave Utah via the portal this cycle. That group includes guard Rollie Worster, who later committed to Nebraska. He appeared in 16 games this past season for the Utes to average 9.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game before suffering a leg injury that caused him to miss the final two months.

Worster started 76 of the 77 games in which he appeared over the past three seasons in Utah and was a key contributor in Salt Lake City. He is still in search of his first career triple-double, but came extremely close during the 2022-23 season when he had 12 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists against Arizona.

Utah went 22-15 overall this past season, including a 9-11 record in Pac-12 play before the season came to an end against Colorado. The Utes still clinched a berth in the NIT and made a run to the semifinals, where they fell to Indiana State, which went on to finish as the runner-up.

Some big changes are coming up, though. Utah will head to the Big 12 along with Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado after a groundbreaking round of realignment left the Pac-12 as just Oregon State and Washington State.
