Spring Transfer Portal Update - Monday, April 22, 2024

Eastern Kentucky running back Braedon Sloan has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. Sloan spent three seasons with the Colonels.

In the 2023 campaign, Sloan made 11 appearances, tallying 143 carries for 765 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. The 5-foot-11, 210-pound locomotive also hauled in 40 receptions for 467 yards and three scores. Sloan’s 1,636 all-purpose yards were the most in the United Athletic Conference.

For his efforts, he was named an FCS Football Central Second Team All-American, FCS Football Central All-UAC First Team member and was a two-time UAC Player of the Week.

Sloan’s standout season wasn’t a fluke. His sophomore campaign was equally stunning. In 2022, Sloan exploded for 629 yards rushing on 147 carries while notching seven touchdowns. He also recorded a career-high 42 carries and 506 receiving yards.

Again, Sloan was flooded with awards for his accomplishments. Following the 2022 season, Sloan was named a HERO Sports Sophomore All-American and a Phil Steele First-Team All-ASUN member.

Sloan saw limited action on the field during his true freshman season, only rushing for 41 yards and a single score.

Braedon Sloan played high school football at Wayne County (KY), where he was an unranked prospect in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Despite Sloan’s endless accolades, he hasn’t lost his humility. In a feature story with Sloan ahead of the 2023 campaign, Leigh Ann Tipton helped fans understand the man behind the face mask.

“They say it takes a village, and my story really is about a village helping out,” Sloan said in the story. “It was such a blessing that people found the time to make sure I got to where I needed to be.

“Football is a great thing for me – but I don’t ever want to be known just for that. Hopefully when people describe me, they say I respect them as a human and respect where they’ve come from.”

Eastern Kentucky finished the 2023 campaign with a 5-6 record. The Colonels were unable to defeat either Cincinnati or Kentucky in its first two games of the season. Against the two high-level foes, Sloan collected 60 yards on 11 carries and 49 yards on four receptions.

Now, Sloan will look to put on a show for fans in a new environment. He is the fifth EKU player to enter the transfer portal during or since the 2023 season.
