McDaniel entered his name into the portal on the first day of the cycle after two seasons at Michigan.

McDaniel averaged a dozen points, 4.1 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.1 steals over 60 games, including 52 starts, the past two years for the Wolverines.

That included this past year in his sophomore season as a top contributor for Michigan. He nearly doubled his scoring at 16.3 points along with averages of 4.7 assists and 1.1 steals. All three were team-highs for the maize & blue in a season where they went 8-24.

McDaniel played high school basketball at Paul VI Catholic in Virginia. He was a four-star prospect and the No. 85 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He rated as the No. 12 PG in the class and the No. 4 player out of his state.

Per On3’s 2024 Transfer Portal Top Players, McDaniel is currently the No. 9 available player overall. He is also presently the No. 2 PG in the portal behind only Harvard’s Malik Mack.

McDaniel is one of four losses for Michigan to this point in the portal following the firing of Juwan Howard. He intends to transfer along with George Washington III, Tarris Reed, and Youssef Khayat.

McDaniel could be the Horned Frogs’ first transfer transaction in the cycle. The have neither added nor officially subtracted anyone yet besides Micah Peavy announcing his plans to enter while also testing the waters for the 2024 NBA Draft.

A breakout sophomore year, albeit on a struggling team in Ann Arbor, should generate plenty of interest around McDaniel in the portal. TCU will get the first shot at him, though, with him coming to check out what the Horned Frogs have to offer over the next few days.
