Penn State Opt Outs Happening With Poor Timing

Penn State wide receiver Dante Cephas is expected to enter the transfer portal, a source tells On3.

He appeared in 12 games this past season while making six starts. Cephas did not play in the Peach Bowl loss to Ole Miss.

Cephas was one of the top transfer portal wideouts available ahead of the 2023 season. He was named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list in the preseason but was inconsistent, due in part to inconsistent quarterback play. His best game this year came at Maryland when he caught six passes for 53 yards in a 51-15 victory.

The move comes less than two weeks after the NCAA sent out new guidance on multi-time transfers. Cephas will be eligible to play at a new school in the 2024-25 academic year without securing a waiver.

Prior to coming to Penn State, Dante Cephas started his career at Kent State. During his final season there in 2022, Cephas caught 48 passes for 744 yards and three touchdowns on his way to earning first-team All-MAC honors.
