Texas quarterback transfer Charles Wright commits to Appalachian State
Former Texas Longhorns quarterback Charles Wright has committed to Appalachian State, he announced via X on Saturday afternoon. Wright spent three seasons in Austin but left hoping to find a program that could offer more playing time.
Wright appeared in four games during his team with Texas, all coming under the watch of head coach Steve Sarkisian. However, he did not have the opportunity to attempt a pass. Games were more than decided if Wright was getting into the ballgame.
Joey Aguilar spent last season as Appalachian State’s quarterback, throwing for 3,757 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He was named the Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year as well and should have his spot locked down for the 2024 season.
However, Wright should have his opportunity at some point. A change of scenery after three seasons in his hometown.
Wright played high school football at Austin (TX) High School, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 871 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
