One of the faster men on the planet has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, as Hawaii wideout and New Zealand 100 meter record holder Eddie Osei-Nketia is seeking a new place to ply his trade.

When it comes to out and out speed, Osei-Nketia has few — if any — peers on the football field. His New Zealand record time for the 100 meters is 10.08 seconds. That record was previously held by his father, Gus Nketia, who set the mark in 1994.

Osei-Nketia holds dual citizenship, and has represented both New Zealand and Australia — the nation he was born in — in international competition. He previously attended Scots College in Wellington, New Zealand, where he graduated before enrolling at Hawaii.

He was eligible to be selected as an Olympian to represent New Zealand at the 2020 summer Olympics, but Osei-Nketia was ultimately not chosen to run in Tokyo for his nation. He also runs in the 200 meter, along with the 100.

Osei-Nketia has played multiple positions at Hawaii, mostly running back and wide receiver. He stands 6 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs around 215 pounds. But coming from a non-football background, his play is raw and he hasn’t seen the field for the Rainbow Warriors.

He’ll have multiple years of eligibility remaining to continue seeing if his world-class speed can translate into a dangerous presence on the football field.

Hawaii managed to stave off a key piece from leaving via the portal

Hawaii quarterback Brayden Schager withdrew from the transfer portal in December after considering

Head coach Timmy Chang confirmed the move as Hawaii gets the No. 8 ranked quarterback in the transfer portal back, per the On3 Industry rankings. Schager originally entered the portal back on December 6th.

But now, he’s back for his senior season in 2024.

Last season, he set career highs with 3,542 yards, 26 touchdowns, 14 interceptions and a 63.2% completion percentage. In Schager’s career, he has 6,505 yards, 41 touchdowns, 29 interceptions and a 59.9% completion percentage in three seasons.

As a member of the Class of 2021, Schager was a three-star recruit out of Dallas (Texas) Highland Park, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 216 overall prospect in the state, the No. 90 quarterback in the class and the No. 1,344 overall prospect in the class.
