Jackson State wide receiver Rico Powers Jr. has announced his intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal. He started his college career at South Carolina before joining the Tigers prior to the 2022 season.

Powers appeared in 10 games at Jackson State over the last two seasons, including seven in 2023. He totaled 34 receptions for 439 yards and two touchdowns with the Tigers, and that came after two years with South Carolina. In his 11 appearances in Columbia, Powers had 31 receiving yards.

Powers announced his decision via social media.

“First and foremost I would like to thank the Lord for putting me in this position,” Powers wrote. “Without him I am nothing. I want to also thank the family and friends that have pushed me to my best to get me this far. I also want to thank Jackson state [sic] for taking me in and believing in me. With that being said I will be entering the transfer portal with 2 years of eligibility left.”

Rico Powers Jr. played high school football at Hapeville Charter (GA), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 281 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
