Sahvir Wheeler elected to enter the transfer portal this offseason in search of a new opportunity to run point guard for a program. Now, the grad transfer has found exactly what he was looking for as he has announced his intentions to transfer to Washington on Wednesday afternoon.

Wheeler started his college career at Georgia where he averaged 11.5 points, six assists, and 1.3 steals per game. During his time in Athens, he started 42 games over 57 appearances as a Bulldog.

Then, ahead of his junior year, Wheeler hopped teams within the league and transferred via the portal to Kentucky. His first season as a Wildcat was a success as he averaged 10.1 points and 6.9 assists. His senior campaign didn’t go nearly as well, though, as injuries kept him off the floor as he missed the final 11 games of the season. Criticism also swirled around him for the duration of the year in relation to his health and UK’s starting job.

Still, Wheeler is both experienced and talented, regardless of the opinions on him. He has been a former finalist for the Bob Cousy Award. He has also been near the top of both the SEC and the NCAA in assists and assists per game several times over his career.

In high school, Wheeler was ranked as a four-star prospect in the 2019 class per On3’s Industry Ranking. It rated him as a Top-100 prospect overall and a Top-15 point guard. He was also a Top-10 player in the state of Texas as a native of Houston.

Many programs sought after Wheeler in the portal this offseason, making this a solid win for Mike Hopkins. He will now head to Seattle to compete in the Pac-12 and be the third former Wildcat to become a Husky in recent years, following in the footsteps of guard Quade Green from 2019-2021 and forward Keion Brooks Jr. last offseason.

Brooks announces return to Washington for fifth season

Keion Brooks made the most of his new opportunity after transferring to Washington last offseason through the portal. Now, it looks like he isn’t done with the Huskies yet based on his latest announcement.

In a video he posted on social media, Brooks linked up with former Husky guard Brandon Roy who narrated in a clip filled with highlights of both of their times in Seattle. Then, at the end, Brooks gave a very definitive statement of ‘I’m back’. Those words officially announced he’d be returning to Washington for his fifth season of college basketball.
