San Jose State Spartans linebacker Bryun Parham has committed to transfer to the Washington Huskies. He announced the move on Instagram.

Parham earned an offer from Washington early last week and on Friday he made his way to campus for a visit. That must have gone well, with the transfer linebacker committing to new head coach Jedd Fisch and the Huskies on Sunday. He still has a season of eligibility remaining.

Prior to his visit with Washington, Bryun Parham praised the new Washington staff, saying, “Just how quickly they jumped in on me and contacted me and the good things I’ve heard about the school and staff. They made Arizona a contender.”

When San Jose State head coach Brent Brennan left to take the head coaching job at Arizona, it triggered the 30-day transfer window. Bryun Parham took advantage of that window opening and jumped into the portal. Oddly enough, in a domino effect, that would never have happened if Washington’s head coaching position hadn’t opened. That led to Fisch leaving for Washington while Brennan went to Arizona.

In place of Brennan, the Spartans hired long time Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo. While with the Naval Academy, Niumatalolo had a 109-83 record and two top-25 finishes. That makes him the winningest coach in program history.

Bryun Parham played high school football at Long Beach Poly (CA), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 1457 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Washington and the Transfer Portal

The Washington Huskies have been one of the most active teams in the Transfer Portal this offseason, both with players heading out of the program and with players coming into the program. That’s probably not surprising, with head coach Kalen DeBoer leaving for Alabama while Jedd Fisch came in to replace him.

To this point, Washington has the 69th-ranked class in the On3 2024 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings. That includes 25 players who have left the program and 10 who have entered the program.

Several key players have notably left the Huskies. That includes Jabbar Muhammad, who recently committed to transfer to rival Oregon. 11 other players have committed to transfer to Power Five schools, including three players who are following DeBoer to Alabama.

Bryun Parham is the latest to transfer into the program. Along with him, the Huskies have added several key players, including three from Arizona who are following Fisch.
