UCF, former LSU EDGE Zavier Carter enters NCAA transfer portal

Former Central Florida EDGE Zavier Carter has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

Carter has been quite the journeymen throughout his college career as he now pursues a fourth program to call home after spending time at LSU, UNLV, and UCF.

Carter played high school football at Hapeville Charter in Atlanta where he was a four-star recruit. Ranked the No. 237 overall prospect in the nation and the No. 27 linebacker from the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

His collegiate career started in The Bayou, spending his true freshman and sophomore seasons at LSU where in two years Carter recorded nine tackles, one pass breakup, one sack, and one forced fumble in his 18 game appearances before transferring to UNLV ahead of the of the 2023 season.

Last season for the Rebels Carter appeared in 11 games posting 14 tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks, and a forced fumble. Entering the transfer portal once again after one season in Las Vegas.

Carter transfered to UCF in January, but following the conclusion of the Knights’ spring practice, he has clearly had a change of heart. Now re-entering the transfer portal following a very short stint in Orlando.

“I kind of felt like when I got here it was very family oriented, it was very relatable to me, so that stood out to me,” Carter said following is arrival at UCF. “Being that this was my third time in the recruiting process I really wanted to hone in on the smaller details. So once I did that and I said this what I’m going to do, once I met with Coach Ingram and the rest of the guys, they met all those standards. So I was like why not UCF?”

Carter now enters the recruiting process for the fourth time as the 6-foot-4, 210-pound outside linebacker/EDGE rusher will look to join a new team ahead of the 2024 season with 29 career games played under his belt between two different programs.
