UMass transfer forward Josh Cohen is set for a trio of official visits, plus an unofficial stop as he delves into the recruiting process, according to On3’s Joe Tipton. The official visits are set for the coming week.

Cohen’s trio of official visits will be (in order) to Arkansas, Notre Dame and then Xavier. The unofficial visit, which will be to Penn State, will come after the official visits.

Cohen, a 6-foot-10 senior, averaged nearly 16 points per game along with almost seven rebounds a game this past season.

Cohen previously played college ball at St. Francis before transferring to play for the Minutemen.

“UMass Nation! Thank you for everything you’ve done for me,” Cohen said on social media after entering the portal. “Especially @coachFMartin , now it’s time for a new chapter on a story that is still being written. I have entered the transfer portal with one year to play.”

As a team, UMass went 20-11 and 11-7 in Atlantic-10 play this past season. The Minutemen got knocked out of the Atlantic-10 Tournament in a 14-point loss against VCU. It was head coach Frank Martin‘s second season in Amherst. He now has a 35-26 record overall at UMass.

Prior to coming to UMass, Josh Cohen spent four years at St. Francis, taking a redshirt and playing in three seasons there. While he was with St. Francis, Cohen was an All-Northeast Conference performer and he was also the Northeast Conference’s co-player of the year during the 2022-23 season.

For his career, Cohen is averaging 14.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. He also has a career field goal percentage of 57.6% from the field and 32.4% from three-point range.

UMass and the Transfer Portal

The Transfer Portal for college basketball opened on Monday, March 18th. That’s the day after Selection Sunday, and it will be open for 45 days. Last season, a total of 1,842 men’s college basketball players entered the Transfer Portal. Teams competing in the NCAA Tournament won’t likely see any players leave during that time, but all teams will now begin their evaluations.

On the first day that the Transfer Portal is open for college basketball, UMass lost three players to the transfer portal. Cohen is, by far, the biggest name that the Minutemen lost. However, UMass also lost Robert Davis, a promising freshman, and Sawyer Mayhugh, a non-scholarship center.
