After entering the transfer portal for the second time this cycle, Will Rogers has made his decision. He is planning to withdraw and remain at Washington, On3’s Pete Nakos confirmed.

Rogers initially committed to Washington in December after leaving Mississippi State, but re-entered the portal Jan. 14 after Kalen DeBoer left to take the Alabama head coach position. He looked at some Big Ten and SEC programs while going through the transfer process again, Nakos reported, but is now planning to stay at UW.

Rogers’ return is a big win for Jedd Fisch as he takes over the program, keeping an experienced quarterback in Seattle as the Huskies prepare to make the move to the Big Ten.

Rogers currently ranks as the No. 18 quarterback to enter the portal so far this cycle, according to the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings. He put up incredible numbers under Mike Leach’s watchful eye in his Air Raid offense. From 2020-22, he threw for nearly 10,700 yards and 82 touchdowns before Leach’s sudden death. Then, when Zach Arnett installed a pro-style system, Rogers’ number dropped to 1,626 yards and 12 touchdowns before he decided to enter the portal.

Staying at Washington was ‘on the table’ for Will Rogers after re-entering transfer portal

Rogers presented an interesting case after re-entering the portal. While a few teams are still looking for potential answers at quarterback, many of the big names are off the board this cycle. That’s why Rogers was looking at all options, Nakos told Andy Staples last week.

One of those options was staying at UW. It turns out that’s the route he chose to go.

“I spoke with someone and Will Rogers camp this afternoon and they really wanted to emphasize that every option is still on the table for Will,” Nakos said. “Now what that is exactly, I think we’ll find out as as the days go on.

“I think staying at Washington is still definitely on the table, depending on who they’re bringing in as a head coach. He’s someone who transferred and started classes and it was brand new and then, all of a sudden, he has to reassess what’s going on.”

Washington has undergone plenty of changes since its national title game appearance earlier this month with Fisch taking over as head coach. He also plans to bring his entire offensive coaching staff from Arizona, and he also now knows who his quarterback will be in 2024.
