So did they make the right decision to Dairy Queen Maximum Security? Does Country House deserve the win?

Not saying it’s right, not saying it’s wrong, but you just cannot make that call at that time. Did it affect the outcome? Maybe. But in those conditions, you cannot penalize the best horse by far in the field over slipping over a lane or two.

Maximum Security deserved to be DQed. Country House really didn’t deserve to be awarded the win though. You can’t jump up 4 lanes. Lucky War of Will and Long Range Toddy didn’t end up hurt in the aftermath of that. Let’s get these last two over with so I can make progress toward getting the f out of here. A month in Louisville is enough.

I really don't know. The announcers implied the best horse did not win as a result. OTOH they said a DQ would be called in any other daily race. That being the case, I say it was appropriate. I feel bad for the owner & jockey of Maximum Security tho.

Yeah, correct decision. Maximum Security had no reason to come off the rail except to impede progress.

I don't really know enough to have my own opinion, but the experts on CBS Sports were pretty convinced that the call was wrong, or at least not obvious enough to make the call there.

Only because “it’s at the end of the Kentucky derby”. That’s a clear foul in every horse race in the world. The same 17ers arguing that viewpoint argued the opposite one when the Saints were punished by it. They are just being contradictory.

Damn, I had it DVR'ed and watched the walk up and race then a few mins afterwards and deleted it. Missed all this. Glad I didn't bet, Roadster was my pick.

It absolutely was the correct decision. Whether intentional or not (and i don't believe it was) doesn't matter, its for the safety of the riders and horses and I had the 7/20 exacta. The horse has to stay in its own path when in a crowd. I hated it for Saez but it aint the first time he has been DQ and wont be the last.

Can't you undelete it? On my DVR, you can go to the Trash and put it back in the main menu. Trashed items stay available for 3 days, then get permanently deleted. I'm sure it'll be replayed many times over the next few days however.

Best horse in the field? I missed the announcers saying this post race. But he blocked 2 horses and the horse on the rail was about to blow by him. Is always interesting when the horse interfered with doesn’t get the benefit of the DQ

But what are you going to do re-run the race?

I thought Maximun Security was clearly the fastest horse out there anyway. He was pulling away down the last stretch. Looked like it anyway. Is it possible the track was slick from the rain and it affected MS? The jockey was talking about how he was a very young horse and not used to everything.

No. That's why I said it's interesting.

They do what they can - penalize the horse/rider that committed the penalty and move the others up. But seen plenty of races where this happened and I was not convinced the horse that was impeded would have won. Today - I think the horse on the rail (master fencer?) was not cut off, he wins. I'm more convinced interfering with horse on the rail allowed Maximum SEcurity to finish first compared to getting into the 1 horse. Far from an expert though - today was one of only 15-20 races I'll watch a year

Maximum Security was the best horse, but that was a clear DQ move. They got it right.

If it was as clear as you suggest, it wouldn’t have taken the stewards so long to render a decision.

I don’t care what kind of race it is, if you are heading around a turn in a packed field at top speed under slick conditions it is very difficult to Lavar Ball it.

The jockey knew it was getting overturned as soon as it was contested. The debate was whether or not they wanted to end the derby like that. Not whether or not the rule was broken

Well, a bag of oats PLUS...

if they win a Derby they get to hang out if a really nice barn in a really nice pasture, eat some really really nice horse food, get incredible veterinary care, AND...

Have someone bring you the pick of the litter female horses for you to breed with every day for the next 20 years, or at least until you can no longer “deliver” a minimum of 500 million motive sperm 3-to-5 times per day, although at peak season this might increase to 10 or even 15 times per day.

You’ll normally be servicing 50 or so mares per breeding season, unless someone is “helping” you deliver the goods, in which case 100 top-tier mares would not be out of the question.

All things considered, you may want to make sure you stay in your lane on race day.

Works fine for me. And everybody else I know that uses it.

Cool starry bra

Guess I’m just being discriminated against, since, you know, I’m actually a Mississippi State fan that calls Mississippi home. Fear not, the best day of the year will be when I point it back that way Wednesday morning.

Ps: the Derby and it’s national imports notwithstanding, there are more sexy bitches at the Kroger in Madison than in the entirety of Louisville, Ky. I guess that’s why your crusty old *** still spends a couple hours a week trolling here.

They could avoid a lot of this controversy if they limited the size of the field. Twenty horses is way too many for a race like this. Set it at fifteen tops.

Saw someone suggest limiting the field to 12 over the weekend. I think that's an excellent idea. Maybe have a qualifying race the weekend before or during the week for the last 4 slots if more than that enter.
