I have seen a lot of people talking about yard work lately. Just be aware with the warm winter we had that ticks are really bad this year.

I have spent the last two Saturdays at my mother's place dragging brush out of the woods and burning it. Ticks have always been bad there and I haven't encountered a single one. Been wondering where they were. Must have all gone to wherever you are.

Permethrin a couple sets of clothes you intend to use out there and you won’t see a tick or red bug for a couple of months while wearing those clothes

I've had bad experiences with ticks but not as bad as they could be. I tuck my pant legs into my socks and my shirt in as well and havent gotten any in a while.

Add Bull Gnats to the list. Assuming it was from extremely wet condition this winter.

This is 2 years in a row the gnats have been horrible. I’d never noticed them before in my life.

Victoria Secret “Amber Romance” body spray. You’ll smell like you’ve been at the strip club but the gnats won’t get near you. I guess where we are we don’t ever have them bad but I know a lot of people that have a bottle of that stuff in their truck for when they’re going to be outside with gnats.

Found the first tick on me about a month ago, latched onto my waist. Pulled it off and a red itchy knot came up and stayed about a week and finally went away. I hate those bastards. I broadcast granules last year and don't recall seeing any

Exact same with me. I had to wear a mosquito-net-hat last year in the yard for two months. Never realized they were a thing before and I grew up on a farm too.

^^^Do this, tick borne illnesses and allergies are becoming more and more common, spray down with deep woods off too.

The alpha gal allergy would destroy my whole world....

I have it, but a very mild case. it varies from making some go into shock just on mammal fumes to causing little or no reaction in spite o eating a regular American diet. I still eat mammal, but others can't even smell it, I would bet a lot of people have and don't know. It can also lessen over time. It has zero affect on my life.

Dog pecker gnats are not the same as bull gnats. (No sarcastics)

No they are not. If bull gnats hung out where the other gnats do, my dog would never leave the house.

ETA... Yes I am so bored I have decided to try to lure digging dog in to a discussion about the value of Ol Roy keeping his lipstick in the tube.

My buddy lives south of Vardaman in front of a huge pine tree lot and his house has literally been taken over with ticks. Literally all over his house. I would say it has to be billions of ticks. They are staying with relatives now while the pest people do whatever they have to do. I've never seen anything like it.

Ive read that ticks do not prefer pine trees but more dense undergrowth and tall grass. Did the pest control people link ticks to the pines?

Not sure. You know as much as I do. I guess I was kinda linking the two because ticks always seemed to be worse around pines. I've always thought they like the thick needles and such under pines. I haven't heard him say anything about what the pest guys think. It would make a damn good horror movie though.

I recently heard a very sad story of a young man that is dealing with severe mental illness (borderline schizophrenia) brought on by Lyme disease. In the woods, those things have begun to concern me as much as snakes.

Neshoba county. Was shooting pistols in the woods for about an hour last weekend. Wife and I both knocked about 5 each off our legs when we felt them crawling. A few days ago I pulled one off my waistline and she had one on her stomach. I tested borderline for Lyme last year after I pulled three off and was running 102 temp a few days later with no other signs of illness. Thankfully since I went early and got antibiotics, I just got tired easily for a few months and no other side effects.

Never tried shooting ticks with a pistol.
