While I agree for the most part, we know what would happen. The Republican states would provide zero assistance other than a bus service to ship poor people to democrat states.
Republican states wouldn't have to provide bus service.

what is it exactly that you think lobbyists do? I was one, and I'm trying to reconcile my activities with what you think they are...
There are different type of lobbyists but the most impactful ones work for say: Blue Cross Blue Shield, who lobby senators and representatives to vote no on social programs that weaken their bottom line.

That source is from 14 years ago dude. I have no idea if it is accurate or not, but suspect it is correlated to church giving.

I tried to find an authoritative recent source and this popped up. I honestly don’t know if this is accurate or not, but it looks a lot less definitive than yours.

What a beautiful tribute to your mom, and also to your dad as well. You do them proud.

Wanted to say this again because it was a good thing to drink water at meals.

My mom had iced water at every meal.

She said it was healthy and inexpensive

Right before she passed away she being an accountant told me how much of the money she was leaving me in an inheritance was because dad and her drank iced water or iced tea or hot coffee instead of sugary drinks.

I was astounded at the number as it would be a nice sum for any struggling family to have access to.

Food nutrition is so skewed toward fast serve highly processed foods with lots of chemicals.

Want to make America healthier then eat a little more bugs and dirt in your food. LOL

In reality I am saying eat closer to God’s earth from whence it comes.

Amen

Excellent!

Water is essentially free. It’s most of what my children drink. Other than milk, what other drink should be paid for by a nutrition program? Certainly not soda, and really not even juices, which are unhealthy and full of sugar.

Hope they continue to streamline SNAP eligible items. Turn it into an actual nutrition program as the name suggests.

If it is not water from the spigot or milk from the cow then it is not needed to be on the supported SNAP LIST. Maybe orange juice but keep it simple stupid.

OK, I understand..but let's start with one basic...no lobbyist has a vote in the Senate....now having agreed on that, you've identified one side of the debate the provider - blue cross - (I understand you're using this only as an example), but you didn't mention all of the patient based organizations that have lobbyists and lobby the same senators on the other side of whatever the issue is. Look it up....lobbyists provide their side of the issue...and for every one that argues "yes", there is another that argues "no".

So your issue shouldn't be with the lobbyists if should be with the senator who, in fact, listens to the arguments of both sides, then calculates how his vote will play upon voters in the next election as much, or more, than the arguments presented by the lobbyists. Why, because, the lobbyist has no vote and the senator has one primary goal...get reelected.

I always get a kick out of senators like Bernie Sanders who will denigrate lobbyists as if they're the ones setting the agendas, and voting. Yet, he turns to exactly the people he blasts for support on his issues. You think there aren't people out there lobbying for Medicare for all??

I disagree. Do you let your 10 year old tell you how to manage your finances at home? Does any sane person manage their personal finances by allowing people that don’t contribute to their finances to tell them how to spend their money.
Currently we have an 80 year old fraudulent businessman who's enriching himself & his family at a rate never seen while adding staggeringly to the debt. I'd rather have a 10 year old.

Let’s say it is. Giving your own money requires sacrifice, giving others money only requires filling in a bubble on a ballot (or ten ballets if you live in certain places).
I reject that assertion as they are false equivalents. I neither have the time nor the patience to go through all the reasons “Christians” tithe. What I can say is that people tithe for a variety of reasons. Yes, the end result is separating dollars from yourself but let’s not pretend the motives are always so selfless and pure. That’s naive.

Cool so you hate democracy.
I usually find that libertarians and right wingers do. They prefer authoritarianism. But many deny or don't understand that thats what they are arguing for.
For someone that tries to claim educational/moral superiority over every one else HEADgiver, you're not smart at all.

Why should anyone who doesn't contribute 1 single dime, have any say in what happens? Hell, if those folks were contributing a single dime, they made it back from SNAP or some other gov't program.

I'm not talking about the elderly on SS.

If you are between the ages of 24-60 and you are not paying anything in taxes, you should not get to vote. Why should anyone who does not pay anything in, get to vote what someone else pays?

You ever heard of EIC (earned income credit)? People get paid money to them, but didn't contribute at all:
Taxes paid= 0
Gov't gives them $10,000 when they file their taxes.

This is exactly why senators and congressional members from welfare states like South Carolina should not be allowed to vote on any bills. Those of us who are bankrolling those ****** welfare states are tired of it, and we feel like we should have more say in what happens in the country. And I don't care which citizens in your state are driving your state to be a welfare state. That's irrelevant. Manage your **** better, and maybe we'll give you a voice again.

I love this idea.
Obviously you hate democracy then. You allow poor people in your state to have a voice.

I am a poor. I shouldn't have any say at all. I get all my funds from welfare and SS. Where is my voice?

All of that last sentence is a lie, but you won't understand it. If you did away with the poor people in your state, you wouldn't have a voice either.

"Manage your **** better, and maybe we'll give you a voice again." Come and take it.

Then stop falling for political tactics and fund education. Fund the IRS to investigate tax fraud, fund the government to find medicaid, SNAP, SS and medicare fraud.

Because you hating someone abusing the system, is making you blind to the good the system does.
"and fund education" Where TF has that gotten us? A bunch of children that can't read or write while billions are spent.

Fund the IRS to investigate tax fraud. You must be personal friends with Lois Lerner. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lois_Lerner When you only look in one direction, that's all you'll ever see.

"fund the government to find medicaid, SNAP, SS and medicare fraud." It's all unfolding in front of your very eyes, but you're too stupid to see it. Does Minnesota ring a bell? I'm sure it doesn't because every time fraud is brought up you limp-wrist shoot it down.

As a general rule, the people who speak most about a topic know the least about it regardless of the subject.

"I was one, and I'm trying to reconcile my activities with what you think they are..." I would certainly like to hear about this. You can DM me if you'd like to expound. I'm a veteran just like you.

What about when “christians” use our tax dollars to give tax breaks to corporations?
Can you expound on this? As long as I've been allowed to vote, I can't remember ever voting for a "christian". Can you show me a ballot where the "christian" party was on it and the votes the candidate received?

Insane. It should be exceptionally difficult to get taxpayer funds unless you have a significant mental or physical disability, or are elderly. If you want free money that was taken from your hardworking American neighbors, there should be a lengthy application process and you should have to prove why you cannot provide for your family. It should be a last resort.

Does this requirement apply to farm aid, corporate subsidies, tariff relief payments, etc?

Sure, but obviously the criteria are very different. And there are legitimate economic reasons for some. Farm subsidies, for example, are probably necessary but need to be looked at for reform, proper incentives, etc.

Individual government dependence is quite different. There’s nothing good about a perfectly healthy and competent person relying on the government for basic needs. That’s a failure by the individual and by our system for enabling it.

Let’s be honest, there are a ton of people who make money who are not hardworking. And there are a ton of people who work very hard and make little money.

I agree in theory, but what would you say to the family in Orangeburg SC that has a terrible public school system and no ability to travel to any job other than minimum wage at a dollar general due to lack of public transportation?

First thing I’d say is that they are getting screwed because others are making $13-15 per hour at DG in Orangeburg per chatGPT. They need to ask for a raise of hit up Mickey Ds for a $15/hr gig. I would also suggest a side gig to pick up extra cash. Or maybe some skill development so they can do better than the most basic jobs on the planet

Since you said family, I assume we have 2 incomes. So that’s $56,000 per year ($14/hr, 40 hrs/wk, 50 wks/yr, times 2), even if both earners can only achieve cashier at dollar general status. That’s enough for modest personal transportation, so your premise on travel doesn’t make sense.

Also assuming children since you said family, I would ask why they had children before they had the financial means of supporting them adequately. This is very poor personal planning.

I would also inquire as to their upbringing and path to this point. Why is cashier at DG the best they can do? How did they manage to develop no other skills? Why didn’t they finish high school or get a GED? Were their parents involved? Do they want better for their children? Do they do drugs?

Lots of things to say. None of them would involve taking money from other hardworking families to give to them.

Do you think you’ll hit a point financially where you are less bothered by this?

Probably not. Because it’s not just the money. I think it incentivizes the wrong things and enables bad behaviors. People shouldn’t expect money from the government. They shouldn’t be dependent on the government. They shouldn’t vote one way so that they get
money from people who actually earned it.

Plus entitlements are what will bankrupt us as a country. They already represent the vast majority of spend. If we follow the democrat path of more entitlements and more government dependency, this will get much, much worse.

We should help those who truly cannot help themselves and be generous in doing so. We should offer a hand up to those who have fallen on hard times without creating permanent dependency. But we should not enable perfectly capable adults by financially supporting them on the backs of hardworking American families.

And specifically with SNAP, we shouldn’t enable the obesity epidemic by allowing people to use taxpayer money on soda, candy or other unhealthy foods. We should significantly restrict fund usage to highly nutritious foods.
