It was never even a department to begin with. You’re showing your age again😛
I wasn’t the one who listed it in the thread to begin with. Some of the majors being eliminated are going away because they failed to meet the requirement of 7 degrees awarded in a 5 YEAR time frame. I’m just tired of the whining about axing ANYTHING from UNL’s course offerings. We can’t be all things to all people.

Agland valued at $500,000 is taxed less than a property in town with a house valued at $500,000.
True but the farmer also pays tax on his house too. Also depends on where you live. Some counties have their valuations accurate and at the level that the legislature requires. Some counties don't. I'm pretty sure a couple years ago Lancaster, and omaha metro area assessors raised valuations up to try to get into compliance but this was met with huge opposition.

Nobody likes property taxes but unfortunately nebraska relies heavily on it to run schools and local government

No, but you’re the one who’s is misreading it.
How did I misread it? Look at his punctuation. I read it correctly based on the punctuation and the & symbol usage by that poster. I thought it odd to have a “Statistics & Textiles” department but nothing surprises me in higher ed today.

Upon further investigation, the majors/departments being eliminated are going away because of a LACK OF DEMAND by students. In some cases it appears there were more employees supporting that field of study than degrees being awarded. So do we continue programs that only award a degree per year? Out of over 20,000 undergrads, a degree per year. 🤔

Beef cows.
we need a lot more of this kind of farming..

the other kind of farming, the one making grains, is not actually healthy for people or animals.

this idea that 'farming' can do no wrong, is wildly inaccurate..

remember, ANYTHING that has to be cooked/boiled, to make it edible, (rice, potatoes, carrots, cauliflower, corn, beans, soy etc) is not actually good for you.

I'm fine flushing all you AG farmers down the toilet..

lands used for grazing cattle, raising chickens, etc, is the type of farming we need.. and you don't need massive combines to do that either.

Higher education is one of the biggest grifts out there. Talk to any honest person in education and they will tell you . Dingle is telling the truth - tiny departments with more staff than students- make work situation for lazy educators.

He's not wrong in that society would be better off by not incentivizing corn/beans to be planted in areas that should be grass. Too many areas that should be grazed and instead are only profitable because of the farm bill. But eliminating feed lots? Yeah, good luck.
Agree to a degree. I’ve seeded down portions of row crop fields to grass hay meadows. I lose more money on that ground than I would in a row crop but feel better about the appropriate use of resources. Legislation and crop insurance has removed a lot of the risk of farming marginal dirt.

If there wasn't subsidized crop insurance and subsidies and disaster payments, I'm willing to bet those hay fields would pencil out better than corn/beans. There is a reason all those fields were hay or little pastures for generations. They weren't meant for crops.

maybe.. i'd be okay exporting this, and it wouldn't be such a big deal if farm based carbs were a smaller portion of everyone's diet, but the world seems bent on moving the other way.. they want to eliminate meat.. I guess everyone can die with diabetes in their 50's.. because that is the path we are on.

Actually no they don’t. You still have to use fertilizer and weed control chemicals. You have equipment costs and property taxes. Then there’s either interest payments or the opportunity cost of having your money tied up in the land. I don’t see any way somebody could go and buy grasslands right now and make it financially feasible as grass.

It’s more a function of population and tax base than it is “farmers are cheap”. Nebraska farmers are taxed inordinately more than their Neighbors. So majors in fashion and ethnic studies make NU a better research university? Nebraska has spent hundreds of millions of dollars over the past 20 years on improving their medical, agricultural, and engineering facilities and research potential. I continue to be amazed at the money we’ve invested in our University.

Frankly I really don’t give a flying fudge about the AAU but some of you seem to have your panties in a wad over it.
The issue as I perceive it is that the AAU does not value agricultural and natural resource research $ as much as medical research $. Ag is a big part of the state as a whole. Michigan State University has always been treated like a second class citizen compared to U of M. MSU is a big ag college.

Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Educational Administration, Statistics & Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design

So it’s following the standard A, B, C & D format

He used & instead of ‘and’ for a reason.

And if that wasn’t enough, ‘Statistics and Textiles’ should’ve been a pretty big ‘something doesn’t look right here, maybe I should rethink this’ moment. Seriously dingle, thanks for the chuckle.😁

Considering that dingle has an infinite list of academic achievements, maybe he is just strengthening his argument that higher ed is mostly a joke.
The people that think higher education is a joke are the people that couldn't get admitted into college.

Being the only institution in the B1G not allowed into AAU is a huge stain on the school, regardless of any excuses given.

What EXACTLY is your issue with waving at the Children's Hospital?

Be specific, because you come across as a first class prick.
Why in the world is something that costs nothing and takes no effort- 10-12 seconds seen as some major virtuous thing? It’s absolutely nothing

Why does it bother Husker fans?
Seriously, why?

Is it because Iowa gets good publicity and Nebraska gets ridiculed for the fake sellout streak?

Why engage if you can't handle a difference of opinion.
Are you intellectually threatened?
Go over to your sight and spew your opinion.

You can’t handle the fact that Nebraska Athletic programs are amongst the best in the country and the you’re Clarkeye programs lack far behind.

Discuss that intellectually.

AI is going to make most of these expensive college degrees worthless and management positions disappear. Basically any job where you work infront of a computer is going to be mostly AI in the next few years. Administrators, human resources, customer service, musicians, designers, programmers, etc. Trades are going to be safe for a long time.

I’m not sure if you took composition in high school but I did. That is not an appropriate sentence structure or punctuation unless the “&” is linking Statistics & Textiles. 😉. My mistake was assuming his post was accurate in the first place.

You can't come over here getting offended and calling people a first hand prick, when you, yourself are undoubtedly a first hand prick 😅
I'm not offended, but your fans referencing "the wave" are being petty and spiteful.
That's not debatable.
Jealousy is a powerful emotion. 😅

There is nothing grammatically wrong with the sentence as written.
A, B, C and D
But he’s replaced the ‘and’ with & in this case to distinguish it from all the other ands in the sentence. That’s his stylistic choice and there isn't anything inappropriate about it.

You clearly got upset, but you should look in the mirror about being petty, spiteful, and jealous. Otherwise you wouldn't constantly be over here talking $h!t. And that's not debatable 🤙He is, he’s clearly upset and he gets what he deserves for living over here.
He isn’t fooling us, he clearly is offended by it other wise he wouldn’t cry so much.
When he leaves to go back to the Pee birds nest he needs to wave good bye.
