Man City charges latest: City found guilty of majority of 115 financial rule breaches - BBC Sport
Maybe the cheaters will finally get whacked.

I've seen an 80 point deduction being mentioned, either all at once (which would be an almost certain relegation), or spread out over three years (which would make it very hard to reach the Champion's League those years). The sources mentioned in that report were pretty good. Supposedly expulsion from the League is also on the table. City in the conference would be hilarious. They'll get a 6-point deduction retroactive to last year. and a $50,000 fine. Liverpool should be awarded a couple of EPL title though.

It should be a lot worse than 80 points. This has been going on for more than a decade now. But whatever it is, City will appeal it and it will go on for a couple more years.I've seen an 80 point deduction being mentioned, either all at once (which would be an almost certain relegation), or spread out over three years (which would make it very hard to reach the Champion's League those years). Yeah, they will appeal it for sure.It should be a lot worse than 80 points. This has been going on for more than a decade now. But whatever it is, City will appeal it and it will go on for a couple more years.
This is essentially what UEFA did a few years ago when they found them guilty of Champions League rule violations. Issued a statement that these serious violations required a stern penalty & then fined them a trivial amount. Those are serious violations. Man City should expect a sternly worded email that asks them to apologize.
Actually, UEFA fined them 30 million Euros and banned them from European competition for two years. The ban was overturned and the fine was reduced to 10 million on appeal to something called the Court of Arbitration for Sport. I don't think that court has jurisdiction in this case. This is essentially what UEFA did a few years ago when they found them guilty of Champions League rule violations. Honestly for as blatant & pervasive as it’s been, the only fair penalty would be a 5-year death penalty.I just saw something on an English site that said that for the penalty to be proportional to what Everton got, it would have to be over 1100 points.
100 points a year for 11 years! That would relegate them year by year to the 11th tier. Manchester City in the Manchester Football League Premier Division. It would take them at least 11 years to get back, assuming they survived.Honestly for as blatant & pervasive as it’s been, the only fair penalty would be a 5-year death penalty.
This will still be in the courts a decade from now.Doubling down and unrepentant

It will move faster once it hits the actual courts. Their system is a lot different than ours. So far it is still in the EPL process. This will still be in the courts a decade from now.
That will take years. First City has to appeal the findings. Then when they lose that, the PL and Independent Commission will decide on the penalties. Then City will appeal the penalties. Then they will file a court suit. This is nowhere near over.It will move faster once it hits the actual courts. Their system is a lot different than ours. So far it is still in the EPL process.
It's actually much worse than I think anyone ever imagined. And as bad as this is, it only goes through 2018. There's almost a whole other decade of even more extravagant cheating that hasn't even been investigated. They are the cheats everyone always thought they were. They really ought to be expelled from the football league. That means for those that don’t know they need to be relegated to at least the fifth tier of English football. Thats down to the semi-pro level.
I’m not sure the courts in England will have anything to do with it. I can’t remember that happening with internal league stuff. I could easily be wrong though. Interesting question. That will take years. First City has to appeal the findings. Then when they lose that, the PL and Independent Commission will decide on the penalties. There's talk the Premier League will relegate them and then the Championship will refuse to accept them. Which would force them down to League One at the highest. Honestly, they need to force City to completely suspend operations for at least a couple of years given the scope of the findings.I’m not sure the courts in England will have anything to do with it. I can’t remember that happening with internal league stuff. I could easily be wrong though. Interesting question.
I did an AI search to see….the answer basically said yes…….and no. The panel that has heard this stuff so far appears to be the one the Football Governance Act of 2025 set up. As such it may be THE body that makes the decisions in this, by law. If they don’t throw the book at them….it will be like college football is right now.
