The Triple AAA football approach to the NFL may challenge its appeal in the long run . I don’t feel as closely connected to PSU football with the current situation. It’s a stretch to call most players Penn State students . Rocco has 3 credits . He’s within current guidelines . But really ? After UW game , he should consider deceasing his credit load .
I wonder if ratings are down because pretty much every game is on now, including many teams with no strong following. Starting tomorrow, 61 days straight of either D-1 or NFL games are being aired .
I thought Nielsen rated networks would only be the bigger players , but Chat said there are 120-150 rated networks.

Looking for alternative explanations, other than just overall viewer apathy ... are there fewer marquee matchups this year than last year? To me it seems that way, but I don't really have anything substantive to back that up.

I have not watched a single Penn State game this season, nor do I intend to. The game I loved for over 40 years is now anathema to me. Watching mercenaries, masquerading as Penn State students, is not worth my time. If this Board was limited to Penn State football talk I would not be here. That said, for those on this Board who still do care, I wish you a season filled with many victories and happy memories.

If you were a student, would you spend $65 on a ticket, or your time watching the game on TV, when you could spend the $65 on beer, liquor and some dorm bed sleaze you could bounce around with?

One could also come here and watch tsitsee baby69 stalk varied posters who beat him down here and elsewhere with laughing emoji.

11% is a big drop. We had Texas-OSU and Texas-Tennessee, LSU-Ole Miss, I dunno what to think.
Yep ... just thinking out loud for alternative explanations.

Last year, Week 1 alone was #1 Texas v. #3 OSU, #9 LSU v. #4 Clemson and #6 ND v. #10 Miami ... plus #8 Bama v. UR FSU.

I have no idea if fewer games were on "Nielsen Rated" stations this year, or even what qualifies as a "Nielsen Rated" station ... or if, perhaps, more people are watching on ESPN+ or other digital platforms that don't qualify (or perhaps they do).

Good question. This Friday, I will be watching Penn State on Direct TV FOX and streaming VTech on ESPN through my ROKU stick on my IPad. Would the ESPN ROKU stream be counted?

Actually, today’s student would pprobably buy the ticket for the “experience”

That's 3 big games
And LSU-Ole Miss and even Texas-Tennessee are regional games
We have another week this weekend in which there's almost no big games--Iowa/Ohio State...maybe?
I hate Notre Dame but last September they played Miami and A&M--that's a huge loss for the networks this year when Michigan State has been their big game

OSU Texas did gangbusters. Think someone said one of the best ratings numbers ever. But even that cannot carry the rest of the dead weight. Anymore, if not two top teams, no one will tune in. And I think you’ll see more top match ups lose steam as well.

It's not that "no one will tune in" but especially in September you don't get huge ratings for bad non-conference games
No one has ever cared about Penn State beating up on Buffalo for example
All this does is reinforce the need for a super league--especially with your comment about Texas-Ohio State
JMO but it sure seems like many of you just dislike NIL and want to believe college football is dying when it's crushing it
Compare their ratings to anything else that's televised.

If your team is #24, do you sit out and wait for the draft? Serious question.
The NFL doesn't care about players opting out of a bowl game--no one should--it's a reward not a meaningful competition. A playoff is different.
#24 in the current system is going to be a MAC or Sun Belt team--they're not opting out
We've yet to see a starter opt out of a playoff game--we never will. We've only ever seen one contributor leave and when I talk about him people get mad so let's just say you need someone either too dumb to understand the rules or too emotion to make a rational decision for it to even be an issue with depth.

MAC say what? More likely a mid tier ACC and again why would you play if you are draftable?
A 24 team playoff will always have the last seeded team as a team from the Group of 6
Yes, if you're a mid-tier ACC player that is entering the draft you play because it's for a chance to win a title--it's not a scrimmage. There isn't even a one second delay in making that decision.
Same reason no one has opted out of any post season playoff or March Madness--because, unlike bowls, the game matters
It's a simple concept. Why wouldn't they play? No competitor is assuming they're losing. Who would want to draft that player
You understand that bowls and playoff are completely different--as we've seen. Expanding it only gives more teams a reason to have their stars play
I'm confused by your confusion.
This is eliminating bowls because no one cares about them other than fans who used to spend money on them and now the refuse to acknowledge what they were. The bowls will become Week Zero games like the old Kick Off Classic.
