We moved up to 22nd in the
AVCA Volleyball rankings.
#24 in RPI (the computers do not love Stanford too much: down at #29)
Our 4 losses:
- #8 Kentucky
- #13 Vandy
- #2 Nebraska
- #5 Louisiville
#24 seems a little low, but what do I know?
Our best wins are #29 Stanford, #30 Colorado State, #39 GT & #58 Cal, all at home, three in 5 sets. If Volleyball used the men's basketball quad system, Stanford and CSU would be our only quad 1 wins, and we would be hoping they win a bunch more to avoid dropping out of top 30. In Women's basketball we would have zero quad 1 wins (their quad system is more stringent).
Unfortunately, UNC and Stanford are the only two teams on the ACC's 2nd tier. (top 30 teams) The next best are #39 GT & #49 Miami who are basically bubble teams. Everyone else is below #50 and needs to get some upsets to make the tourney So this Stanford W is our only meaningful ACC win because our schedule is unfortunately only top 10 teams, teams we should sweep, and Stanford.
Our next two games are #233 Cuse and #133 BC. We have a good chance of being 11-1 in conference before heading to #6 SMU, then at #2 Pitt. We would be ahead of either team in ACC standings if we managed to beat them. Both teams still have to play Louisville (SMU plays them twice.)
As others have said, we probably need a top 10 upset at some point to earn a top 16 seed to host. The two coming up soon or Louisville later. (or the ACCT). Our next toughest games are #49 Miami (twice) and #54 FSU, which will not register on the RPI (unless we lose)
