The K-Shaped Economy Is Turning College Football Into a Snake That’s Eating Itself

Perfect summary of the sad state of college football. I walked away from it last September and I'm not coming back. The Gordon Gekkoization of the sport has ruined what was once a great institution. Obscene coaching salaries, absurd (fired) coaching buyouts, the transfer portal, and NIL are in...

    AKB Tell me about Phoenixville

The worst part of that commute is Route 23: single lane each way, lots of lights, and a volume of traffic that will make you scream. That being said, it is a good community in a nice area, a stone throw from Valley Forge Park.

“Stanford football players join push for collective bargaining”

I say do away with college football and basketball. That will end the labor problem. Isn't that Reagan did to the striking air traffic controllers? Maybe having the tail wag the dog isn't such a good idea when it comes to higher education.

I've heard as much. I want to get it done and have no trepidation.

That put's my impending cataract surgeries into a proper perspective. Good luck with your surgery and cardiac rehab. I'm sure you'll pull through and be better for it, Fairgambit!

    OT: Kroger & Giant Eagle

"PA is a Commonwealth aka Commie State" yet has no control over pricing in supermarkets. That there is a consistent picture. The problem is the rise of a few large corporations who own so many major chains. It is the nature of capitalist enterprises to grow. It is also their nature to maximize...

I hate soccer and won’t watch the World Cup Thread.

But would you rather watch your children or grandchildren play soccer or tee ball? Coached both and there isn't even a close comparison!

Penn State needs to embrace Elon Musk.

He would want to have a say in current majors, with a free hand to DOGE them. Anything along the lines of African Studies would be swiftly axed.

Myth America, a collection of essays written by current historians, edited by Kruse and Zelizer, and White Evangelical Racism: The Politics of Morality in America, by Anthea Butler. Both are provocative explorations of what lies beneath the surface of standard cultural narratives.

    OT: National Lampoon Magazine.

Sat with some buddies in the back of our 10th grade biology class, trying not to laugh out loud at an issue that contained the article "How to pick up chicks", circa '71-72. On plying a date with alcohol: "The rule of thumb is that 7 stiff ones should oil her up for the 8th"! On skinny girls...

“Alabama, Kalen DeBoer agree to new 7-year, $87.5M contract”

The current president of U of AL has a base salary of $800K plus a "performance" incentive of $150K. So, the effing football coach earns a significant multiple of the university president. Yeah, our culture has its priorities together. Marx was right: "Sports is the opiate of the masses."
