The punt returner position for those who are squawking

Vander Zee is another example of KF's conservative approach. James takes it to the house, and he loses his job. RVZ is okay as you say, but having the threat of breaking a punt return makes up for a lot of deficiencies elsewhere. Catching the ball is number one, no doubt about that, but if...

    OSU kick-off time

Phil Parker, Zach Lutmer, and the gang may have something to Sayin about that. IMHO, of course. :)

Tim Lester & the Shanahan/NFL Offense: Lester has a package of plays he's never run UNTIL NOW because he now has "the horses" who can make the plays

It was against literally one of the ten worst teams in FBS. Iowa should be so proud.

Tim Lester & the Shanahan/NFL Offense: Lester has a package of plays he's never run UNTIL NOW because he now has "the horses" who can make the plays

Tim sure did a masterful job of hiding his playbook vs. Iowa State. That may have been the worst game he's called at Iowa. Almost no misdirection despite not being able to run the ball at all. Two QB sneaks into an 11-man brick wall. Brown fumbled on the 4th and 1 play but was lucky enough to...

Re-watched the game and here are some tidbits

Same way a review can add a second on the clock. The same way a review can call an illegal fair catch signal, even though it wasn't, and even though it wasn't called on the field. Think of the review booth as a kingdom and the review official as the king. That should be easy these days.

Re-watched the game and here are some tidbits

Apparently somebody needs to based on the evidence everyone with eyes could see. Oh, when they have 11 guys stacked over center, let's try a couple QB sneaks. Yah, that's some creative, sneaky stuff right there. No wonder Lester's NFL offense takes so long to learn.

    9-5-09 vs UNI

Iowa and KF deserved to lose that game. I felt terrible for UNI. Blocking TWO FGs back-to-back may be less likely than a hail mary, and that's what it took for Iowa to slink away with a one-point win over the FCS boys from UNI. Incredible.

    Kirk quotes/phrases

He claims to remember the 1980s under Hayden Fry, yet his approach to offensive football couldn't be further removed from the Fry approach. A psychologist would have fun discovering what that's all about.

Do you think KF will go for it on 4th and short near midfield early in games now

Conservative, stubborn Kirk go for it? LOL Where have you been the last 27 years? And if running a QB sneak into a brick wall of 11 players--twice--is "going for it," well . . . :)

OT: The old Wing T and Full House Backfield formations is alive and well with the KC Chiefs

Bob Commings, a 2-way starting lineman at 167 pounds for Evy's Rose Bowl teams, tried to run the Wing-T when he was head coach of the Hawkeyes in the 1970s. It didn't work, largely because he recruited the wrong kinds of skill position players. It was a round hole square peg deal. It's not the...

What other types of RBack running plays do you want to see?

My preference would be for plays that work. Lester, the master of misdirection, telegraphed about 93 percent of the plays on Saturday night. The two QB sneaks into an 11-man brick wall were especially creative. I thought Lester said his entire voluminous playbook was available this season...

The day this series ends will be a glorious day.

Every third year would be plenty for me. My preference would be to ignore ISU altogether, but if Iowa thinks it MUST play them, then only do it every third year. Annually is too much of a bad thing. There's never an upside for Iowa, so why the hell do it?

Do we get the OR this week at the QB spot?

Not to mention he fumbled the snap on the 4th and 1 QB sneak where he gained an inch. And he also fumbled on a run up the middle, actually "dribbling" the ball and managing to recover it. He was lucky as hell not to have two crucial TOs.

Do we get the OR this week at the QB spot?

KF says a lot of things. You are a fool to believe most of them. Hecklinski won't take another snap @ Iowa except in garbage time or unless Brown suffers a major injury. Then, after the season if not before, Hecklinski will transfer.
