Option 5: Cal needed to go or retire but needed to outlast Mitch.
Unless a hire is made for him, Mitch screws up big time. And no i don't believe that Lee Todd story about Mitch wanting Cal in 07 and was the one pushing for him in 09.
He didn't want Cal either time. He didn't go after Stoops...
He's the stop gap. New AD can get rid of Pope. Hire him with no buyout while UK pays for the buyout of stoops and pope.
We ride that 3-5 year wave. He retires. We're happy and back on solid ground.
He left. We didn't make him leave.
He decided to disrespect the fans that made UK what it is and the entire reason he wanted the job for 25 years. He decided the SEC tournament didn't matter and ridiculed fans for getting upset after so many early exits. He decided not to watch film to prepare...
2 things can be true.
Cal and UK needed to separate.
Pope should've never been the replacement.
Oh and Mitch is the worst thing to ever happen to Kentucky basketball..... So I guess 3 things can be true simultaneously
Not sure you've paid attention to the last 6 years. Lots of people have been blasting Mitch and rightfully so for his handling of so much over that span.
And it continues with his golden parachute
So where is the talk of UNC being irrational? And the talk of you can't treat a beloved alum that way? And UNC deserves all the bad that happens to them?
Davis has been much more successful than Pope.
And to be fair UNC should make a change.
Oh the dreaded silent verbal. Just waiting on the "dream school" comment and then things to go crazy silent for the next few months and then he randomly goes to Syracuse or something
The program was trending way down with Cal the last 5 years. Pope has continued that trend.
All of it points back to the man in charge allowing for mediocrity to set in.
Cal got his lifetime contract and got fat and lazy. He lost it. And that's fine. It happens to most coaches. It was time...
