Good morning folks. Heading out to for a run before the sun gets up. It may be a short one. My knee has been acting up and I don’t want to push beyond discomfort and really wreck it.

Then we’ll head for church, followed by a quiet day.

Nothing much else to report, so I’ll wish you well.
My knees were acting up for a while (still do periodically) but I found the best exercise/position for them is the Asian squat. Asians can squat down for long periods of time even in old age. You may have to start with holding on to something to begin with and start with 20-30 seconds in the squat and work your way to longer periods, but it has worked wonders for me. More and more "experts" are suggesting this for knees and hips. Also, I take glucosamine chondroitin supplements (started with 2 a day until I felt relief and then 1 a day). Just a suggestion here as my mobility improved with both of these things.

I do a lot of floating around on the internet looking for better ways of keeping my physical strength/agility up. Not ready to give up my ball playing days yet.

Just curious. What running shoes do you wear? If you have not already done it, you should search running shoes for knee issues. I don't run anymore with a bad leg, but I am pretty careful about the shoes I wear. A running shoe with very good cushioning helps me with just walking.

I walk 3-4 miles/day. Wear Brooks Glycerins. Heavily cushioned.

Hello All,

Back home now. The BB is going through some "adjustments" to his attitude after this morning. Nothing major. (He's a good boy.)

Reading the above, I have had left knee surgery back in about 1984. (Think I stated 1985 previously but my years run together at times.)

I had complete foot-drop for about two and a half years after that but my nerves regenerated a lot. I still have foot drop but slightly from what I previously had. I guard against stubbing my toes or tripping constantly but I walk okay except for my ole right hip now. (Working on it.) To young to hurt like I do in my hip and now will do about anything to get it corrected.

I am looking at tae chi (spelling?) the squatting for me is scary at best. (Was in the pool yesterday and felt some left knee issues I do not remember having but will get them checked. No pain anyway.)

We shall see. In any event, I am thankful...

I hope your day(s) today is fullfilling....

Bernie -- I've worn many different running shoes over the years, from my basketball Chuck Taylors in the mid- 1970s, through Brooks Villanovas (remember when they were a breakthrough?) back in the early 1980s, through lots of varieties of New Balance and Nikes -- remember, we're talking a half century of running at various levels of seriousness and intensity.

Today, I'm actually running in a pair of Hoka Clifton 10s, copying my Marathon-running wife who went to Hokas after she had a hairline hip fracture for the cushioning and joint support. If I had any notion that I wanted to increase my pace, Hokas wouldn't be the shoe. But they are fine for me now.

A brief aside about gym shoes. Back in 1985, when I was still playing basketball, I went to my local store to find some shoes. They had a pair on sale that were ugly as hell, but were exactly my size (13) and felt good. I wore them a few times, but never loved them, and just stuck them away. Fast forward about 40 years and I found those Fugly shoes at my parents house were stashed a bunch of stuff when I was making a move -- original Air Jordans, even in Michael Jordan's size. Mine are not in perfect shape, and I don't have the box, but apparently they are still worth maybe a thousand bucks (Google it.). I gave them to my son and suggested he sell them.

My Dad has had 3 knee replacements. Before his second one I asked his doctor what I needed to do to prevent knee issues. He said "it's easy, no running, no jumping". When I started to open my mouth with a question he interrupted "No running, no jumping. You can walk, swim, bike, hike but, no running, no jumping". So far, it's worked for me.

Dad & his two brothers had seven knee replacements between them.

I had one done going on two years ago - caused by cartilage damage 46 years earlier, not wear & tear. So unlikely to need the other one done. Asked doc what I could do on it & he said give it three months, then anything I want. I asked about skiing & he said fine. Haven't done that & now likely won't given age. Wish I'd had done earlier, but it really never bothered me that much till last 5 years before I had it done. Was getting gel injections for two years prior. All & all, just bad timing for the skiing. Oh well, knee's good. Plus the space between knees when I put ankles together is a much smaller wicket. Shoe wear is much more centered vs. outside edge.

When I started taking running as more than a casual thing, I bought a pair of Etonic Street Fighters. That was before running shoes became so big. I couldn't believe how good they felt. They aren't worth nothing like your Jordans, but I see ads where people are asking one or two hundred for them used. I guess Etonic has fallen behind these days though.

For you beer lovers.

Thieves Make Off With 50,000 Cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon in ‘Biggest Beer Heist Ever

A PBR party…. Dang how the mighty have fallen…. You could give me a six pack. I may be cordial and stand one but darn if I wouldn’t give or throw them away and I am about as frugal as you get….

Maybe too, the owners of the stuff may have rigged it to get insurance dough as they may have been reaching their expiration dates….

OT: I have my H-Wave device on going through a 30 minute session. After nearly two weeks it may be back to the drawing board for the docs.

Hey fellers. Yep. In case anyone ever wondered, old Starchief still kicking at almost 83 years now. That is unbelievable to me considering I never took care of myself healthwise. No aches or pain to speak of. Just a loss of a lot of mobility. The worst part of being my age is watching so many of your friends pass away.

I lost interest when they made all the changes here. Got booted out and considered it too much effort getting back on. I do read occasionally but rarely post.

Morning D-Legionnaires!

Hot...

Monday, Monday.

Normal activities planned for today. Monster walk, exercise, clean house and then, couch potato time.

Reds took the series from Cubs. Sal Stewart is something else. If everyone on the team played with the intensity he plays with they would be in the hunt.

You folks be good out there or at least be good at it and be safe.

God Bless.

Hello All,

Got up early. Me and the BB was finished sleeping. The BB had breakfast, I had my coffee. My Darling and I will take him to school in about an hour then head back up to the cesspool that is DC. Yeah, I sure do HOPE this is the last pass into that abyss for now. (You'd have to be there to understand.) I am not better than, just better-off not being there....

(I will tell a story once this is all finished. Got to know a judge...)

Love this day and use it to God's glory...

Good morning from ATX.

Found over at Marketplace Austin parking lot. Life is good.

When I lived in SA, I frequented parking lots at the end the wind ended. I used to find lots of money that way. Not sure why but I have walked a lot of parking lots but never except in SA did I ever keep walking them. I kept finding money in Texas… Enjoyed walking our local HEB parking lot.

Good morning folks. Chugging along on the subway.

It turned really warm and incredibly muggy this morning. August was like October and at least to start September is like August.

I suppose anyone paying attention could see the Mark Mitchell fiasco coming. I don’t know if Pope is inept, unlucky or both but it just feels like his time at Kentucky as HC is going to be brief, depressing and forgettable. Something, call it the Winner’s Gene, appears to be missing in the guy.

Ah well. You all have a good day.

Hello All,

Won’t say where I am but I am….

Enjoy your day(s) but I won’t. Until I leave this place.

The nice warm day wants me to take the BB swimming. I think I will if I get back in time. I will leave anyway, just like I did yesterday….

I need the BB….. My Booger Butt…. Papa’s Baby…. I am thankful…

Morning D-Legionnaires!

Light workout on tap for today if I make it that far. Coffee better do its job, otherwise after the wife leaves my mistress the couch will have me for the whole day. Tired for some reason.

Reds won last night... wooooo hooooo! They are mathematically still in it.

Hump Day for the those still getting it done.

Be careful out there and God Bless.

Good morning folks. Bumping along in the subway.

My daughter is back home, showing off her dazzling engagement ring and full of stories of the Baltics and Scandinavia. She’s always been a happy person but she really seems fulfilled and joyful now, which is one of the most satisfying things a parent can see.

Had a long talk with my son last night. He was psyched about heading back out with his fire crew.

So, all is well. Starting another work day. I hope you all are fine.

Morning D-Legionnaires!

No relief from the weather yet.

Reds won last night with newer players homering to bring in some runs. They will be lucky to win 2 or three more for the next couple of weeks as the opponents will be the Brewers for 3 the Dodgers for 3 and then the Brewers again followed by the Dodgers again. Then, the Cubs and the Braves so... not going to be easy.

UK football? No expectations, just hoping to be competitive at least.

Bengals? Burrow says it is time to get it done. We are long past that time.

Well, enough of my crying. You good people have a blessed day and May God watch over you.

Hottest week of the year in NKy. Strange. Would expect July or August. Second hottest period was early June. Also strange. But all in all, a below average heat & above average water summer.

Off to Europe Sunday p.m. Will miss Bama game. I need to plan better.

Been at it but My Darling and I took a trip to the ocean. Heading back tomorrow. We are in Exmore, VA. 220 miles or so from home but if the Lord doesn’t take me home we have all day tomorrow to get there….

I do hope you are all getting a real good rest….

Wait for it.......................................................................HOT!

What to watch tonight...college football or the Reds vs the Brewers. Probably go with the Reds since they have a couple of youngsters they have been trying out.

As Austin posted above, It's Friday! Go get all of your game goodies and prepare for the first game of the year.

Enjoy your day folks and get back home safe all of you who will be out and about.

God Bless and be careful.

Happy Friday folks. A busy day ahead, but WFH, so not bad. Got a leaky hot water heater. It is always something. I was bitching that we just replaced the water heater and my wife says, "I remember when we put that water heater in we had to regulate the temperature so the babies wouldn't get scalded in the bath. They are 28 and 26 now." So, maybe it is time.

Hope you all have a good day.

Hello All,

The car is ready when we are. Just have to get in and hope it starts. My dumb self drove in salt water yesterday. Never thought about it until this elderly gentleman in his truck rolled his window down and said; “Do you know how stupid you are!” (Nope, was not a question.) Told me how I better get my brakes replaced next week. (If I had ever met him, I’d have better handled it but that anger came out of no where.) I grabbed a hold of myself quickly though.

I did try finding a car wash but had no luck. The one I did find was closed down. Need to pressure wash my wheels and brakes and the underside of my car soon. I will the first one I pass going home.

While I do and always have placed special emphasis on respecting my elders, I did apologize to the man for bothering him. He was sure angry. I hope he is not alone….

Love thy neighbor….. (Whew, slap me in the face…)
