True Lies 2 would make for a great old person action movie now.

I find that incredibly sad. Have you read the book? It's a very fast read, something like150 pages. It's themes and ideas are so much more powerful than the movie. The ending is incredible and makes the movie look terrible. The book had so much future influence on books and movies: a biological cause for vampirism (they're more zombies than vampires). heavily influenced George Romero to do night of the living dead, influenced 28 days later, etc.
On a somewhat related note, you made me recall District 9. (Sharlto Copley was in both). It was hugely profitable, launched Neil Blomkamps mainstream career, and even set up the sequel in its ending. Yet for some reason Blomkamp just never seemed to want to do it. It was discussed, and no way would it have not been greenlit, but he just never got behind it.
A friend of mine hung out backstage with Bobcat Goldthwait after his standup show at the Diamond Jo about 15 years ago. He owned one of the approximately 14 DVDs of that movie ever sold. He had him autograph it and they got talking about that movie. Bobcat said that he sat with Robin Williams for the premiere. After his scenes, he told Bobcat thanks for ruining my career. Supposedly true story lol.
