Remember it like it was yesterday. Watching on CNBC and when we saw the 2nd plane hit the tower we knew it wasn’t an accident.

RIP to those we lost that day.

Downtown CR for me. I had to come in only a couple hours before I began a vacation the rest of the week.

We had a huge presence in NYC, so word got to us literally seconds after it began. I had an account team nearby the towers that more or less was IMing me early details until she had to evacuate.

I remember us all trying to find a live video, and we settled in on CNN, which had a tiny live stream that was stuttering. We didn't have TV in the office, but considering we were a telecom, we were able to keep up pretty quickly.

Our office closed by roughly 1030...

The things I remember most was I got to my cabin, and by then the full stop was on. River traffic was nothing, no jet contrails. I went into town to fill up my boat tanks and the local Casey's had traffic wrapped around it twice.

I wound up, no kidding, directing the traffic in and out...police were nowhere to be seen. They had more important things to tend to.

September 11 2001 was a spectacularly beautiful fall day in Washington. I was in the office a little earlier than most as usual. At some point our legislative affairs person - the only one in the office with a tiny little tv to monitor cspan - poked her head in and told me a plane had hit the wtc. I poked my head in to see the fire burning and left shortly thereafter, assuming it was an errant single engine. But soon enough the news caught up and the second tower was hit, which made it clear this was no accident.

At some point there was a rumor that a plane had hit the White House. I went to the south facing conference room window to look. It was only a few blocks away. The smoke was so thick from what was actually the pentagon - a few miles away - I thought it actually was the White House.

Saw the second tower come down and felt like I was going to be sick at so much instant death. People started going home but I figured it would be a mess and decided to just hang around til later in the day.

Called my mom who was vacationing at the Jersey shore to tell her I was ok. She had no idea what was going on and said “that’s great honey”. I told her to turn on the tv. Drove up that weekend. Flags on every bridge overpass.

At lunch I went out to grab a bite and it was the quietest traffic jam I’ve ever seen. But I still remember the car radio playing Bob Marley’s One Love: Is there a place for the hopeless sinners/who has hurt all mankind just to save his own beliefs?

Sophomore year in college. I remember going to Humanities and then they cancelled the rest of the day. Went to my apartment, turned on the TV and couldn't turn away from the chaos. Driving to work people lined up at gas stations anticipating spikes in gas prices. Did 9/11 start the 24 hour new cycle? It felt like I didn't change off of National News for a month

Changed our whole world. It feels like the last time this whole country stood together for a common belief. Can't believe it's been 25 years

Senior in high school and I remember a classmate coming into school saying a plane just crashed into a building. Like idiot teenagers we thought the video was awesome not taking into account what was truly going on. We watched a lot of tv as school that day. I still remember seeing a lot of teachers bawling over what was taking place.

Freshman year of high school. Someone mentioned in my 1st period shop class (no TV in that class) that they heard a plane had hit a building in New York. By the time I got to 2nd period the second tower has already been hit. I remember them telling the teachers to only show a few minutes of tv and then get back to lessons. Not a single teacher did that, we watched the coverage all day.

My best friend (Lebanese descent) got called a sand ni**er that day by one of the many racist POSs we went to school with.

8th grade math. The teacher’s tried to shelter the students by not letting anyone watch tv all day. We didn’t really know what happened until last period history (around 2:30pm) when our teacher said our lives had all just changed that day. He was the only one that let us watch anything on tv.

Later that afternoon we beat the piss out of West Sioux in jr high football.

My second cousin (mom’s cousin) was a 2 star major general and his office was right where the plane crashed. He was not in the office at the time.

Lived and worked in Roanoke, VA which is 3 hours from DC and was at the airport at the time calling on the Ops Manager for it regarding chemical usage for deicing planes and runways when he got a call regarding a plane crash into the WTC so we got up and went into the break room to watch the tv to see if it was true. As we were watching, the second plane hit the other tower, he said, “holy shiat” get your stuff and get out of here, this place is going on lockdown.” As I left the airport grounds, all entrances were blocked with cops cars with lights on.

Roanoke is known as a test grounds for Air Force pilots to bring the President’s planes to do touch and goes due to the bowl shape of it with the blue ridge parkway. Saw all kinds of smaller ones, but never Air Force 1. Anyway, word was President Bush was going to fly into Roanoke then copter over to the Greenbrier since there is a war room in the basement of it but that didn’t materialize since he was in FL so he went to Barksdale in Louisiana then onto Offitt in Omaha before returning to DC later day/evening.

Left the airport and went to the office and watched the events of the day unfold with everyone in the office which were absolutely insane to watch with the towers collapsing, pentagon hit, crash in Shanksville, PA and the overall sense of helplessness as our nation was under attack. Went home and watched tv the rest of the day and night just thinking this day was unimaginable from how it started with cool, crisp, clear blue skies, to the worst terrorist attack on our country.

On September 10 I flew into Cleveland and met up with a guy from Lincoln, Nebraska. He was a business partner on a project. He arrived before me and rented a car, picked me up and we drove to Dubois , Pennsylvania.

We were in a meeting with some people from the Dubois area, long story regarding this project. We all had time and money involved .

I understand the one plane flew over the top of us before it turned around. We were told what was going on but since we came so far we continued our meeting.

Well, we couldn't fly home obviously and rental cars were precious so we decided not to give up our car in Cleveland. We just drove back
and the fellow I was with took the car all the way to Lincoln, Nebraska.

4th grade Siouxland History class at Whittier Elementary. The teacher stepped out and came back to class wheeling in a TV. I kind of knew it wasn't good, obviously, but growing up in a military household, I really understood how bad it was when I came home. My dad was gone a ton growing up after 9/11. Also, we grew up next door to a gas station, and there was another gas station about half a mile away, and one thing I'll always remember that scared me that day was the line of cars waiting for gas. That line went all the way down the street and wrapped around to another line waiting for the other gas station, and people were acting kind of scared. I'll never forget that.

I was visiting my GF in central Florida and asleep on the first, then glued to the tv all day.

I just remember all the talk that this was phase 1 and we were about to be attacked wholesale and have a war on US soil.

I was a bit of a political edgelord at the time. I remember thinking the whole thing was globalist chickens coming home to roost. Turns out it was some dudes who hated freedom.

I was at work. Back then we had very strict internet usage at work. Emails and certain stuff for customer accounts, but anyone caught surfing the net was flogged. No smartphones to rely on, so when the rumors came in I was in disbelief. We were getting calls from customers and employees all over the country with access to TV or radio reports. One of the VPs found a flag hung it up in our main room and made us all recite the pledge of allegiance.
Mrs. Lucas was to fly from CID that day to a conference in Atlanta, so I recall picking her up at UIHC with her luggage because she'd caught a ride with a co-worker into the hospital that day. .We listened to NPR on the way home and watched hours of TV that night. I tried to get gas because I actually needed it, but gave up and threw what I had in the gas tank for the mower into my car.
My oldest brother was a commercial airline pilot back then. He was in Canada and stranded there for several days. Not that it matters in the grand scheme given what happened, but the airline tried to cut off paying for hotels as it drug on with what to do with all of the jets that had been grounded. The union fought back. Eventually he was allowed to fly back to the US to Detroit after several days.
My overwhelming memory of 9/11 and the few days following the attack is of numbness.

Probably like most people. I remember being on my way to work and the radio talk show host said a plane hit the WTC. I was thinking of the B-25 that hit the Empire State building in the fog in the 1940s and wondering how that could happen in the modern times. Right before I parked, they said another plane hit.

I went up to the office and someone was pulling a television into a conference room to watch. Of course not much work got done that day.

I was a freshman in high school. Walked into my first class that morning, Algebra 2. I was the only freshman in the class, and since it was early in the school year I didn't really know anyone in there yet so I just sat in the back and kept to myself. I was sitting there and the kid next to me tapped my shoulder and asked if I had heard about NYC getting attacked this morning. I said no, and he told me that one of the Twin Towers had been "bombed."

The teacher basically just explained what we needed to do for homework, and then turned on the old azz TV up in the corner of the room. And that's how every single class went that day. Homework requirements explained, TV turned on to the news. I still remember it like it was yesterday/csb

Brand new Platoon Leader in 2nd Bn, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Div. We were the DRF-1 battalion (18-hrs anywhere in the world upon notification, full Brigade with in 36 hrs). We got locked down completely, cell phones gathered up eventually. Started getting the heavy drop rig site prep'd for more equipment, we had our initial heavy drops already rigged, and the ASPs open to start drawing our basic ammo & weapons loads. Our USAF ETACs (now JTACs) showed up that morning from Pope and lived with us in the HQs & barracks. We sat for 3 weeks like this. Finally stood down, and the 10th MTN Division deployed to Afghanistan instead of us, being kept as "strategic reserve."

That Xmas our block leave was cancelled and we were being staged for a brigade sized parachute assault to seize Bagram Air Field. That was cancelled as the Northern Alliance advanced, and the heavily Soviet mined area around Bagram predicted an extremely high casualty prediction for paratroopers. We later deployed there that next spring. I spent 32 month of my life in Afghanistan from 3 combat tours with the 82d and SOF. I'll admit I cried like a baby when Abbey Gate and the withdrawal happened, just a lot of emotion released from years spent, not that it was over etc.

I think enough time has passed that we can now make Twin Tower inflatable slides that collapse randomly. Even people who lost loved ones should be able to laugh about it now. The "never forget" sentiment is funny.
