Stein is just doing what Stools did - Tell UK that they absolutely can win, get the job and ride it as long as possible to enrich yourself. The joke is always, always on the UK Football season ticket holders that believe anything will ever change other than an occassional Music City bowl win. Maybe a Peach bowl.

Stein looks like an utter fool right now. A pretender. Glad Stools is gone, but it is and will always be a snowball up an icy hill against the SEC. I'll watch all day games in reatime but night games must be recorded.
You do realize there is an ENORMOUS talent and talent depth disparity between us and Alabama right now, correct?

Lot of people pumped Stein. This is an embarrassing effort today, from all involved on the UK side, except the fans. Which is pretty much always the case with UK sports anymore. Both major UK sports are an utter joke at the moment. Sorry but it’s time to call a spade a spade. We have zero run game. How do you expect to pass the ball with zero run game? People saying Minchy didn’t show up… what about CJ Baxter? Supposed to be one of the best O lines in the country blocking for him. At the end of the day this team is hype and nothing else. No substance. Bama is very average and DeBoer isn’t going to last there. If we can’t beat them at home with all the buildup, we’re gonna be lucky to win 4 games this year. It is what it is… UK football. The ****** part is that we don’t have basketball to look forward to anymore.
Deboer is an average at best coach, but they still have 5 stars sitting behind 5 stars. Pump the brakes some. We are severely lacking in talent right now. Stein can't turn a Fiero into a Ferrari overnight. He may not be able to, but I can't judge him by this one game against Alabama.

If Stein can’t win here, no one can. I’ll wait until he gets his guys. Until then, we’re probably bottom 4 in the SEC.
That Is Dumb Will Ferrell GIF by MOODMAN

There are a lot of proven coaches that could. This is his 2nd game as a head coach, so his ability is a huge question mark.

The Cats lost the moment and ran out of energy but Bama has a lot of problems. They make a lot of stupid mistakes and seem undisciplined, that’ll burn them this year. Their talent won out today but when they play teams with equal talent they are gonna get whipped some.

If people want an occasional 8-4 season, it very well could happen. But the guy came in cocky AF and said he was gonna win NOW. He looks like a moron and deserves his crow so far.
Like I said, I wanted Hartline..

Let’s be honest with ourselves. The Kentucky Wildcats are one of the worst programs in the history of college football. According to Sports Reference, the Wildcats are 538-593-36 all-time with only two conference titles. We may find that Stoops’ approach was brilliant. Stein will have to recruit at a level never seen in UK football history to go 4 quarters against elite SEC competition playing the way he wants to play.

I certainly understand your point and the sentiment, but with what will surely be player turnover through the portal ... I am beginning to sense that how adept a staff is at allocating its NIL resources may be the biggest key to success. Do you build a program now ... or simply buy one with one-year contracts ???
Just thinking out loud ... do not pretend to really know ...

The team got exposed. Stein had no answers. Every other SEC defense on the schedule will tee off on us. We'll see cover 1 and cover 0 a lot the rest of the way on first and second down.
That’s not what killed us at all. It was the fact they had all 11 within 10 yards due to zero fear of a deep threat. Their corners are huge and fast. We couldn’t separate. Cover 1 or cover 0 would’ve been great. Was 2 safeties and zone coverage that we just couldn’t find holes due to it being so compressed.

Offensive line couldn't stand up to Bama in the 2nd half and their back 7 are too good in coverage. Passing will be there in future seasons, just not against this Bama defense. May be the best D we play this year.

I just don't understand why we relied so much on medium and long throws. We could get 4-6 pretty consistently throwing short. We don't need a touchdown every play – we just need to keep the drive alive...

And for the love of God, give the defense a few minutes of rest.

I'll happily give Stein a couple years to build up his program, though. I fully believe he'll get there with the pace of recruiting and the style he wants to play. He seems pretty savvy on the sideline, too. I trust a second game Stein's game management more than a tenth year Stoops'. The bar is low, but still.
I could totally see Will Stein taking over play call duties for Joe Sloane at some point this season. There was a video up in the off-season of Brian Kelly ripping Joe Sloane for his play calling in a game at LSU last season.

I didn't think there was much creativity in the play calling yesterday. Having said this, we just don't have the depth yet, it was obvious how both lines wore down in the 2nd half.

It's game 2 man, some of these players wasn't even recruited by Stein, I feel confident he'll build the depth with talent with time, he's already recruiting at a high level, getting high star recruits here for visits is a sign of things to come. This team wore down in the 2nd half, that was obvious, Stoops didn't leave him that much to work with talent wise. Look at Alabama's roster, they have 4 & 5* kids all across it & playing 3 deep at most positions with talent, our team is lucky to have 2 at most positions if that.

Bama used zone a lot more early in the game. They were keyed on the short passing game and probably expected Minchey to try intermediate routes. Bama still got pressure bringing only 4. As soon as they figured out that Minchey couldn't beat them over the top, Bama adjusted and did a cover 1 robber or even zero on some longer downs. They also waited to see our alignment, and used movement to create uneven sets that are harder to assign and block.

As soon as Bama realized that they could cover us man up, and get away with blitzing corners and safeties, the game was over. Minchey never had a chance, because we were dialing up longer developing routes and he wasn't finding anyone. Our backs did an incredibly poor job of picking up their chip man and stepping out get a good hit on their assignment.

Another thing that I wanted to point out. Their MLB got caught once simulating the snap count. It looked like that happened more than the one time it was called. I guess that is just SEC football and part of the game when you are playing Kentucky. It wouldn't surprise me if they were stealing signals too. SEC football.

Minchey had a relatively clean pocket early on in the game and still wasn't effective. I'm not really sure what the answer is, but expect A&M to do more of the same. A&M will put up 70 on this team if it gets out of hand early.

With the basketball team demanding almost as much as the football team, that’s probably an unfortunate reality. We may very well reach a point where we have to choose one sport to be good at and one to be mediocre/average at.
I thought that was done years ago?

If Stein is the coach we think/hope he is….that should never happen.
I hope not, but that second half left little doubt in my mind about the direction things are headed. You can scheme all you want, the personnel isn't changing.

I wish we had a more rational schedule, so that we could get to a bowl and get momentum. But this season was going to be a struggle no matter what due to scheduling.

I said from the moment the schedule was out it was 4 max. Hope it’s four.

It takes time to fill the empty roster top to bottom. I hope it doesn’t get out of hand but having a good first string isn’t enough. Stein is gonna have to have talented reserves before the bad losses stop. There simply isn’t enough time in one off season to fill every hole the blessed Stoops left him with. People shouldn’t be mad at Stein, they should be mad at everyone that said to keep giving Stoops time to right it year after year and asking but who do we replace him with. Those are the people that should be feeling the heat.

Anyone that was surprised by the outcome is a delusional idiot. I knew the outcome of the game before it started. The only thing that surprised me was how we played in the first half.
You were right but There were legions of morons predicting a win (or close loss), Minchey a darkhorse Heisman candidate etc. The hype machine as it always does, got out of hand this summer. Bama is good, not great.

Yeah, I’m not as critical of the fake punt as others. With the way momentum had completely shifted, I think he correctly concluded that things were about to cave in on us if we didn’t retain possession there …and we only needed like one friggin yard.

He took a risk that didn’t work out, but I totally understand the logic behind the decision in that situation.
I understand the timing of the fake punt. He has been quoted as saying the got the defensive look he wanted. If he got the look, why did it fail? That makes me question his judgement on that call.
