Senator Turtlehead to return from the dead this Wednesday?

The Senate gaveled into session today and still no Mitch (the "Walking Dead") McConnell. 92 days and counting since we last saw him being transported to the hospital. (The hospital morgue?)

His aides say that they "hoped"he would be able return to work this week. There are apparently a couple of votes schedule for the Senate this Wednesday (September 16)..

Np kidding? I saw two different news articles (one of which I linked) indicating that he was a no show today. Maybe he showed up later on in the day? Did he utter even a single word?)

No clue. Says he will vote on stuff on Wednesday. Crazy how he gets to blow off work for three straight months, give no updates, then appear in a wheelchair and people don't tell him that what he's doing is f cked up.

Always makes me think of the old Zappa song “tryin to grow a chin”

Like so many he stayed past his shelf life. But in the historical arc, he’ll probably be viewed as one of the more effective senate majority leaders. Almost always got it done

What did he do or say to convince anyone that he was not, in fact, dead? I guess I should congratulate him on not being dead, but I feel pretty confident that he is essentially a vegetable. He was a mess before the events of June 14th. A heart attack, coding, and being revived from that likely did not improve his health.

?? He was hauled out of his home on a gurney after having had a heart attack, and hauled away in an ambulance. He spent, what?, two months or so in the hospital, and another month at home, rehabbing. All that while, he released no video or audio that evidenced he was still alive, and declined to resign his Senate seat, leaving Kentucky down a Senator for that whole period. He returns with no explanation or apology, and says he is determined to serve out his term. We're not talking about a criminal trial here, but if you want to call that "guilty," I suppose I would agree with you.

He gave multiple updates. You rejected those updates because you were certain he was dead.

He gave no updates. What happened? Why took him out for three months? Why's he in a wheelchair? Why isn't he allowed to answer questions? Why did he get rushed to the hospital? What happened in the hospital? Why's he look near dead right now? He hasn't said anything about this.

They released a photo of him and Elaine from the hospital and you rejected it because you were certain he was dead.

On July 12 he announced that he had been released from the hospital and moved to a rehabilitation center and you rejected it because you were certain he was dead.

On August 6 he announced that he had been released from the rehabilitation center and would continue his recovery from home and you rejected it because you were certain he was dead.

You bet the farm that he was dead and it backfired on you. Just be a man and take the L. Or at least stop lying.

I think my favorite part of this whole saga was all the posters who kept insisting that Governor Beshear should just go ahead and appoint a replacement for McConnell and even criticized Beshear for being too weak.

What an epic faceplant that would have been for Beshear if he had just unilaterally replaced a longtime senator.

Virtually everyone who directed negative comments at McConnell, his staff, and Repugnicants about this subject opined that he was either dead or a vegetable. That's because he had already been falling down and simply freezing up, repeatedly. And that was just the public incidences of this that we saw. Imagine how many more times he did that in private. Where's the lie in that? He had an obligation to his Senate colleagues and (most importantly) to his Kentucky constituents, to both explain his absence and show up and do his job. He did neither, which is what prompted all of the speculation. He should have resigned. But he literally was not capable of doing that. Well, maybe he could have made his mark (i.e., an "X") on a letter of resignation. His legacy will be shiat.

No. I’m saying that you’re blatantly lying when you repeatedly claim that McConnell never provided any updates while he was out.

And where was all this anger from you when Dianne Feinstein missed 3 months of work and came back in a vegetative state? Were you saving all your anger for when a Republican did the same thing?

It’s interesting that you say that now. I don’t recall you saying that 3 years ago. And I definitely don’t recall you starting multiple threads every week of her absence demanding updates.

Mitch should be out on his ***. And he will be in a few weeks. There are only 3 months left in the session and the Senate will be in recess for most of it, for the election and Thanksgiving and Christmas. I don’t see the point of spending millions of dollars on a special election to have someone keep his seat warm for a few weeks until his permanent replacement is sworn in.

And I still don’t understand why you got so lathered up about him being out. His absence was to your political benefit.

duck session. What about the rest of this last year when it was clear he had no idea what planet he was on?

That sounds like revisionist history to me. But unfortunately those posts vanished into the ether when HBOT ceased to exist. My recollection is that most Dems defended Feinstein holding on to her job because they were concerned that Republicans would refuse to swear in Newsom’s appointment or block them from filling Feinstein’s committee seats. It should be noted that when Feinstein died and Newsom appointed Laphonza Butler, she was sworn in just 2 days later and almost immediately began serving on Feinstein’s old committee seats.

The real reason Dems wanted Feinstein to crawl across the finish line is because the power brokers in the moderate wing of the party wanted Adam Schiff to win the 2024 election and were concerned that Feinstein’s replacement would have the incumbent’s advantage over him if they decided to run for a full term in 2024.

So even if Turtle had resigned the very next day after his medical emergency that sent him to the hospital, the earliest possible date for a special election would have been August 10. The Senate had already adjourned for a 5-week recess on that date. Which means the earliest the winner could have been sworn in was two days ago. Just in time to spend roughly 6 or 7 actual weeks in office.

Dems were constantly dumping on Feinstein. One, because she clearly had no idea where she was. And two, because she wasn't able to vote which screwed up all sorts of things.

Wtf are you talking about? Do a search of the existing posts before she died. They're few of them, but nobody defended her. All I saw was people dumping on her.

As for Mitch, he was having bad episodes even before the beginning of this year. He was repeatedly freezing and there's that famous video of him falling and looking at the reporter asking him what's going on like he's from another planet. Mitch clearly hasn't been able to drive his job since last least last year.

There are very few posts to search. There was almost no traffic on the HROT board in 2023 because we were all at HBOT. And all of those HBOT posts vanished into the ether when on3 absorbed Rivals.
