His show was not ended because he/it were a failure, in fact, it had the highest ratings among the three late night talk shows for multiple years. It was losing money because advertisers were shifting their dollars from network television to streaming services and digital, online audiences due to shifting viewing habits, particularly among the key demographic who prefer to watch clips the next day instead of staying up late to watch the talk shows. And we also can't ignore the political element that played into the decision, specifically Colbert's criticism of Paramount settling a 16 million dollar lawsuit with our greedy president.

Just because you don't care about these shows doesn't mean you speak for everyone.
